Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) was dispatched to the 14800 blk of Southlawn Ln (Rockville), Georgetown Paper Stock of Rockville, for an “outside fire involving paperstock and recyclables” shortly after 8pm on Tuesday night.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, four fire engines, two aerial towers, one brush truck, and one rescue squad was required for this call. Firefighters used heavy equipment to expose fire and wet down.


Per Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination (MATOC): Crash with Injury. MD-650 SB (New Hampshire Ave.) at Cresthaven Drive. Montgomery County, MD. All travel lanes are blocked. Follow police directions in the area. Delays are building. Extended closure expected.

At 4:44am Montgomery County Police issued the following traffic advisory: “TRAFFIC ADVISORY: A traffic collision has southbound New Hampshire Ave. closed at Cresthaven Rd. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect significant delays.”


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) received a call for wires down at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Jones Bridge Rd. According to MCFRS Assistant Chief David Pazos, units on scene report several wires and a tree that has fallen and is blocking all traffic at the intersection. MCPD and Pepco are en route and delays are expected.

Alert Montgomery provided the following: “Severe Traffic Alert: All lanes are blocked on southbound Rockville Pike (MD-355) between Cedar Lane and Jones Bridge Road due to a tree and wires down. Expect significant delays. Seek alternate route.”


Much of the area dealt with Thunderstorms from Friday afternoon and into early Saturday morning. One part of Glenmont, on Livingston St. and Weisman Rd. dealt with flooding shortly after 11pm on Friday night following a day of storms.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a house fire on the 9000 block of Willow Valley Dr. in Potomac early Saturday morning.

According to MCFRS Assistant Chief David Pazos, responding units reported fire through the roof on arrival with all occupants of the home self-evacuating. The fire was extinguished without any injuries. Two adults and one dog were displaced.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) was dispatched to Miller Fall Rd and Muncaster Mill Rd (Gaithersburg) for a vehicle accident involving an occupied school bus with children. Two occupants from the car are being evaluated for transport and traffic is being diverted by Montgomery County Police.

According to an update by MCFRS Spokesperson David Pazos, MCFRS is transporting three adults (two from the car and the driver of the school bus) to local area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. All 30 students on the bus are ok and are in the process of being transferred to another MCPS bus en route.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) are on the scene of a collision that occurred Thursday morning in Wheaton-Glenmont. According to Montgomery County Police, the collision involved six vehicles, one of which is a school bus. Three adult females were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. There were no students on the bus at the time of the collision.

Montgomery County Police tweeted the following at 8:35am: “TRAFFIC ADVISORY: A traffic collision has eastbound Randolph Rd. closed at Glenallen Ave. Expect significant delays. Per MCPD: A 61-year-old Silver Spring man died when he was hit by a vehicle on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.  At approximately 9:26 p.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to New Hampshire Ave. and Bonifant Rd. for the report of a collision involving a pedestrian.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation determined that the driver of a grey 2012 Toyota Prius was traveling south on New Hampshire Ave., south of Bonifant Rd., when she struck Sidney Cardoso Sr., who was in the roadway, for reasons still under investigation. The driver remained on scene.  Cardoso was transported to an area hospital, with serious injuries, and later pronounced dead at the hospital.


Montgomery County Police tweeted the following at 8:22am on Wednesday, September 6: “TRAFFIC ADVISORY: A traffic collision has Westbound River Road closed at Springfield Drive. Drivers are advised to take an alternate route. Expect delays.” According to public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, the collision involved a school bus. Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. According to MCPD, “At approximately 9:26 p.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of New Hampshire Ave. and Bonifant Rd. for the report of a pedestrian struck.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver of a grey Toyota Prius, that was traveling on New Hampshire Rd., south of Bonifant St., struck an adult male pedestrian who was walking in the roadway. The 61-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, where he was pronounced deceased.
