The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) has arrested a federal agent accused of sexual assault. Detectives believe there may be additional victims. The agent, Eduardo Valdivia, was previously found not guilty of attempted murder by a jury in 2022 after he was charged for an off-duty shooting that occurred on a Metro train in Bethesda on December 15, 2020.
This afternoon, Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) patrol officers operating in the central business district (4th district) responded to a report of shoplifting at the JC Penney store located in Wheaton Mall. Upon arrival, officers encountered an adult male suspected of theft.
The Montgomery County Police Department has shared that the intersection of Linden Lane at Newcastle Road in Silver Spring is closed for a death investigation. No foul play is suspected. Drivers should expect delays and seek an alternate route.
District 4 (4D) Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander David Smith shared that this morning, detectives from the MCPD Major Crimes Division were passing thru the 4th District when they identified and later recovered a stolen vehicle in Wheaton-Glenmont.
Montgomery County Police issued a traffic alert at 5:53pm stating that Bel Pre Road is shut down at Arctic Avenue in Aspen Hill. Updated with additional information.
District 4 (4D) Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander David Smith shared that 400 pressed fentanyl pills were recovered when protective patrol observed and interrupted a drug sale on Friday night.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged 48-year-old, Fabian Newsome with the Monday, October 21, 2024, murder of 88-year-old David Newsome, in the 12000 block of Sandalwood Lane between Colesville and White Oak.
Hesler Saul Sanchez Cruz, a 45-year-old husband and father, was killed early Sunday morning in Wheaton when he was stabbed on the 11300 block of Fern Street in Wheaton. A suspect, 30-year-old Jose Emilio Ortiz Alba, was arrested and charged in Virginia and will be extradited to Montgomery County. Cruz’s daughter has started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help with funeral arrangements.
Per the GoFundMe fundraiser: “We tragically lost our dad, Saul, on Sunday morning. He was a vibrant man, who made everyone laugh until tears came out of our eyes and was the greatest story teller who could make you feel fear, happiness, and utter amazement. In this difficult time, we ask of you to help us with our cause and donate whatever you can so that we can lay our dad to rest. Thank you all in [advance].”
Montgomery College has provided additional information regarding a “Code RED,” that closed the school effective 1:30 pm on Friday, October 11th following a threat made toward the school.
