For nearly a decade, Churchill football had struggled to get over the hump against Northwest. The Bulldogs had dropped eight of their last nine meetings with the Jaguars, including a heart-breaking 21–20 loss the last time these two clashed. But on Friday night in Germantown, Churchill rewrote the script in dramatic fashion.

Montgomery County residents will soon have three more spots to grab their morning coffee and donuts. As we’ve previously reported, Dunkin’ is planning new locations in Derwood, along Norbeck Road in Rockville, and as part of the upcoming Rockshire Village redevelopment across from Wootton High School.

Montgomery County was awarded more than $2.1 million in Maryland Energy Administration grants during the first half of 2025 to fund clean energy, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle charging projects, with annual savings projected at $214,000 and reductions of nearly 1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and over 500 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. The Maryland Terrapins stayed undefeated on Saturday afternoon with a commanding 44-17 win over the Towson Tigers, and two Montgomery County products played leading roles in the victory. Quince Orchard graduate Iverson Howard paced the Terps on the ground, while Paint Branch alumnus Octavian Smith Jr. delivered the team’s biggest performance through the air.

ABC’s 20/20 recently revisited a Montgomery County case that haunted the Chevy Chase community for more than two decades– the 2001 murder of 49-year-old Leslie Preer. The episode, titled “First Comes Love, Then Comes Murder,” walked through how advances in DNA technology helped bring long-awaited closure to Preer’s family. The episode premiered on Sept. 12th at and is now available to stream on Hulu and Disney Plus.

The Montgomery County Council’s Planning, Housing and Parks Committee will review ZTA 25-07 on September 15, which proposes prohibiting licensed cannabis dispensaries within 100 feet of residentially zoned property and making technical updates to retail use regulations. The committee will also discuss ZTA 25-09 on allowing alkaline hydrolysis, or water cremation, as part of funeral and interment services. (more…)
