Governor Wes Moore announced the appointment of James J. Dietrich to the Montgomery County Circuit Court and Kristina L. Watkowski to the Worcester County Circuit Court.
The Education and Culture (EC) Committee will meet on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 9:30 a.m. to review the MCPS central office reorganization plan and receive an update on staffing and hiring. The reorganization, approved in June 2025, aims to direct more resources to schools and students, reduce 68.8 full-time positions and $5.9 million in expenses, while the staffing update will address vacancies, especially for special education and multilingual learner support roles. The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) shared at 7:11pm on Tuesday evening that officers were dispatched to the report of shots fired on Veirs Mill Rd in Rockville.
The Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) released its annual Troubled Property report showing a 69% decrease in units on the Troubled Properties list and a 57% decrease in units on the At-Risk Properties list for Fiscal Year 2025, attributing the improvement to stronger enforcement, rent stabilization measures, and increased landlord compliance with housing code violations.
The Montgomery County Council will hold a public hearing on the University Boulevard Corridor Plan on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, at 7 p.m. at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring to review recommendations on housing, development, transportation, and sustainability along a three-mile stretch of University Boulevard.
