The Education and Culture (EC) Committee will meet on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 9:30 a.m. to review the MCPS central office reorganization plan and receive an update on staffing and hiring. The reorganization, approved in June 2025, aims to direct more resources to schools and students, reduce 68.8 full-time positions and $5.9 million in expenses, while the staffing update will address vacancies, especially for special education and multilingual learner support roles. The Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) released its annual Troubled Property report showing a 69% decrease in units on the Troubled Properties list and a 57% decrease in units on the At-Risk Properties list for Fiscal Year 2025, attributing the improvement to stronger enforcement, rent stabilization measures, and increased landlord compliance with housing code violations.
