We fully expect Winter Storm Watches to be issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) later today ahead of Tuesday’s potential storm. Last night’s model runs increased projected snow totals and much of the immediate area is now in the ‘significant snow risk’ category.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has released snow maps for first part of the potential winter storm headed our way Tuesday into Wednesday. The potential storm is expected to start during the day on Tuesday and last into Wednesday, but the maps only show projected totals until 7pm on Tuesday.
Montgomery County is under a Winter Weather Advisory from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, with snow, sleet, and freezing rain expected to create slippery road conditions and possible ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch. County officials urge residents to stay informed, report power outages, and track snow removal efforts through the MCDOT Snow Information Portal and Alert Montgomery
The Winter Weather Advisory previously issued for parts of the area has expanded to now include DC, additional parts of central Maryland (including all of Montgomery County), and additional portions of central and northern Virginia. The advisory runs from noon Saturday until midnight or until 7pm depending on your location.

When referencing the winter weather that could be headed our way next week, FOX5 meteorologist Mike Thomas recently shared on X (full post available below) that “there will likely be impacts on school/work facilities in the Tuesday-Wednesday time frame.”
Freezing rain caused some icy conditions in the area overnight– enough to delay schools locally and close neighboring Frederick County. Now, we have two events that remain possibilities in the next week.
Per MCPS: Out of an abundance of caution, all MCPS schools and offices will operate on a Code Yellow two-hour delay on Thursday, Feb. 6.
