The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Special Weather Statement for parts of Maryland regarding the potential for hazardous commuting conditions on Thursday afternoon. Frederick County, Carroll County, Howard County, and Northwest Montgomery county are among the areas included.
The snow has moved out of our area after dropping a half inch to 3 inches across the DMV. Here in Montgomery County, a general 1-2.5 inches fell, according to observations taken in the last six hours by trained spotters for the National Weather Service (NWS). The totals can be seen below (not every area is included):
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued starting at 10pm this evening until 7am Saturday for DC, Central Maryland (including C/SW MoCo), and Northern Virginia.

The National Weather Service (NWS) writes that a “period of light to moderate snow will overspread the region this evening into tonight. Some lingering snow east of I-95 Saturday morning, then dry/cold through the weekend.”
After three consecutive days of MCPS cancelling school, we have received reports throughout the day of schools with unplowed parking lots and snow/ice covered sidewalks.
After 6-9” across the county earlier this week that has caused three consecutive snow days, we are now looking at the potential for light snow this Friday into Saturday.
With 6-9” falling across most of the county and 5-12”+ in surrounding areas, just about every nearby school system has had back to back snow days. Now, the shift moves to Wednesday and the possibility of another closure or delay.
