Residents across the county have reported receiving a fraudulent text claiming to be from the “Maryland State Department of Motor Vehicles” and demanding immediate payment. This agency does not exist, as it is called the Maryland Motor Vehicles Administration in Maryland, and the agency would not communicate with you via text.
The Montgomery County (MD) Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a rise in scam calls where impersonators claim there’s a warrant for arrest and demand payment via prepaid cards. Detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department are investigating a shooting and assault that occurred Saturday night on Bureau Drive, where two men sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being attacked by a group, with evidence of a shooting also recovered at the scene. (more…)

Following the recent fatal shooting of two Israeli Embassy staff members outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., the Rockville City Police Department (RCPD) announced it has increased patrols near synagogues, places of worship, and community centers, and is working with local leaders to support community safety. Similarly, MCPD issued a statement on Thursday, May 22, noting that while there is no known threat, patrols around Jewish institutions have been increased out of an abundance of caution.
