Emma’s Torch, the nonprofit café and culinary training program that helps refugees, asylees, and survivors of human trafficking build careers in the food industry, will officially open its new Silver Spring location on June 12. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for June 11 at 10 am at the new café and training center at 1200 East-West Highway.

Graduation season is almost here, and one local ice cream shop is giving the Class of 2026 a sweet way to celebrate.

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream at 18519 N. Frederick Ave. in Gaithersburg has announced a special graduation promotion for local graduates on Friday, June 12. Throughout the day, members of the Class of 2026 who visit the shop wearing their cap and gown will receive a free menu item of their choice.
