Pizza Hut has officially returned to the Briggs Chaney Shopping Center, opening its newest location at the Briggs Chaney Center (13884 Old Columbia Pike). The pizza chain previously had a larger, freestanding location in the shopping center for many years before it closed in 2017. The building was demolished and a new Popeyes restaurant opened in its place in 2021.
Washingtonian Magazine has released its “29 Best New Restaurants in the DC Area” list, stating “There’s never a dull moment in Washington’s food scene, but the past year has been especially exciting.” Just two Maryland restaurants, both in Montgomery County, have made the list:
Federal Realty has announced that Rockville’s Bao Bei will open at Montrose Crossing in Rockville. What began as a “ghost kitchen” (a restaurant without dining space and no visible storefront, where food is typically sold through third party delivery apps) in 2022, Bao Bei features a variety of Taiwanese street food dishes from baos to hearty bowls, side dishes and more. Chef Kevin Hsieh, a 2013 graduate of Gaithersburg High School, curates a dining experience that preserves tradition and offers authentic Taiwanese flavors.
Wawa has announced its “Cheers to Classrooms” initiative that toasts teachers and school staff with free any size hot coffee is back from Monday, September 2 through Sunday, September 15 in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Piketoberfest returns to North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose (11870 Grand Park Ave.) on Sunday, October 6, from 12:00pm-4:00pm.
Okaeri Japanese Cafe, which means “Welcome Home” in Japanese, is currently holding its soft opening. Okaeri is located the space that was previously home to Eerkins Uygher Cuisine at 1701 Rockville Pike # B1 at Shops at Congressional Village in Rockville. Eerkins closed following a kitchen fire in May 2022 and reopened in a different Rockville location in March 2023.
Cypriana, a restaurant offering authentic Mediterranean-style (primarily Greek and Cypriot) cuisine, last year signed a 5,595 square foot lease at Maple Lawn– a 600-acre mixed-use community located in the Fulton area of Howard County. Construction is set to begin soon.
