At the beginning of this year we let you know that Peterson Companies, which owns Rio Lakefront, submitted an application that proposed to add a floating dining pier for Guapo’s restaurant. The Gaithersburg Planning Commission approved the plan in February, but Guapo’s tells us that “the project will not be happening as of right now” and will keep us updated if anything changes.
Pacifica Café, located at 621 Center Point Way in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood, will close permanently on November 28th, according to a sign posted on the restaurant’s door.
Arby’s closed its last Montgomery County location at 11710 Rockville Pike in North Bethesda back in May of 2021. McDonald’s will be its replacement and now a permit valued at $1.15 million has been issued to get things started, according to Maryland Newsletters.

In June we let you know that Starbucks received $475,000 permit for the interior construction of the upcoming Starbucks at White Oak Town Center (12345 Columbia Pike). The store is now officially open.
Neko Nook has officially opened in the space previously occupied by FD Book Cafe at 422 Main St in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood. The new cafe touts “comfort meets creativity” and the menu features Japanese-style sandwiches known as “sando.” A first-look video is available below by @tastemoco.
Kanpai Southeast Asian BBQ and Shabu Shabu Buffet is now open at 1701 Rockville Pike STE A10 in Rockville and our very own Mr. MoCo stopped by to support the restaurant and provide a “first look” (video below).
Kura Revolving Sushi has announced it will be opening on Saturday, October 5th at 12266 Rockville Pike in Federal Plaza (Rockville). The conveyer belt, revolving sushi spot is taking over part of the space that was recently home to Chuy’s and previously home to Ruby Tuesday next to the recently opened Torchy’s Tacos.
With signage up since last winter in the windows of the upcoming Tatte at 12232 Rockville Pike in Towne Plaza (the shopping center next to the Original Pancake House on Rockville Pike), many have asked when the second Maryland location will open. A representative from the Bethesda location has told us to expect a late December or January opening.
