Over the course of four days, during a trip to the cheesesteak capital of the world (Philadelphia, PA), we tried cheesesteaks at 18 different restaurants that are often mentioned as having “the best” cheesesteaks in the area- including the $140 cheesesteak from Barclay Prime. Below you’ll see a little more information about our process, followed by our big announcement at the end:

Coming soon signage is up for Yummy Bowl Mongolian Stir-fry and Sushi at 2010 Veirs Mill Rd in Rockville. The restaurant will be located in the space previously occupied by Bamboo Buffet in the Twinbrook Center. Malai, a New York City-based ice cream shop, opens in DC at 1407 T Street NW on Saturday, May 18, at 12 p.m. The shop “brings a taste of India in every bite and every cone, through its spice forward flavors, and its creamy textures. We are inspired by the traditions, culture, and heritage that India brings, and we show that through our products, hospitality and design.” Malai is owned by Pooja Bavishi, winner of Food Network’s Chopped Sweets competition.
Ruta Ukrainian Restaurant is coming to 4862 Cordell Ave in Bethesda, the former site of Momo Chicken.
Remember BD’s Mongolian BBQ in Bethesda? Today we remember BD’s Mongolian BBQ. The Midwest restaurant chain had just one DC area location- at 7201 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. For 14 and a half years, from 1998 until August 2012, Mongolian BBQ provided a unique restaurant experience that attracted customers from across the county, state, and even NoVa and DC.
Virginia based Johnny Ray’s Sultry Soul Food in Downtown Silver Spring will open this Saturday, May 11, according to report by Source of the Spring. (more…)
Dimmples Kettles is now open at 8073 Georgia Ave in Silver Spring. The restaurant is located in the space previously occupied by Lotus Cafe, which closed in July 2023 after 15 years in business.
Solaire Social, located on the ground floor of the Solaire 8200 apartments at 8200 Dixon Ave in Silver Spring, is scheduled to open on Friday, May 17. The 13,000 SF dining destination and bar will feature a collection of artisan concepts from across the globe, curated by award-winning chef and restaurateur, Akhtar Nawab. (more…)
