After more than two decades as a staple of the Washington region’s dining scene, Cubano’s is entering a new chapter. The Bethesda location of the beloved Cuban restaurant has been listed for sale as the current owners prepare to move out of state. The Silver Spring location closed last year after more than 20 years in business.
Three Maryland eateries, all located in Montgomery County, have been recognized by Eater DC on their list of “Best Sandwiches Around DC Right Now.” While there are many wonderful sandwiches across the county, Wheaton, Takoma Park, and Bethesda are now firmly on the map for serious sandwich enthusiasts.
Bao Bei is now open at 12055 Rockville Pike in the Montrose Crossing shopping center. The fast-casual restaurant is serving up authentic Taiwanese street food. Founded by the talented and Montgomery County-raised Kevin Hsieh, Bao Bei has built a loyal following from its roots as a ghost kitchen and its national television appearance, and it is now ready to serve the community from its new brick-and-mortar location. After 16 years of operation, Bete Ethiopian Cuisine & Cafe, a beloved staple of downtown Silver Spring, has permanently closed its doors. The restaurant, located at 811 Roeder Road, has been cleared of its interior fixtures and furniture, according to Source of the Spring.
Maman Joon, a restaurant specializing in Persian cuisine, is coming to Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. It will occupy the space formerly home to Brio’s Chicken and Tara Thai. (more…)
Summer Restaurant Week, presented by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW), returned August 18th and was originally scheduled until August 24th. It has now been extended until the end of the month, August 31st, with plenty of Montgomery County restaurants participating.
An enduring chapter in Wheaton’s dining history has come to a close. Cristina Ristorante Italiano, the beloved neighborhood Italian restaurant that has been a staple for over two decades, closed its doors permanently on Monday after making the decision to not renew the expiring lease.
Sunday night was filled with laughter, gasps, and outright amazement as Maximum Magic Shop (currently located in Potomac) put on an unforgettable show at Give a Hoot Comedy Club in Gaithersburg. The event featured a lineup of local magicians from across the DMV area, leaving the audience thoroughly entertained and, for a couple attendees, literally hypnotized (video below).
Burtonsville bid farewell to its 7-Eleven, located at 15585 Old Columbia Pike, this past spring. The building is set to be demolished as part of the plans for Wawa to open its second Montgomery County location on the current site of 7-Eleven and the adjacent Mattress and More Liquidators (15595 Old Columbia Pike). A representative from Mattress and More Liquidators shared with us that the store is expected to close in October.
Frederick has a new destination for all things sushi and hibachi! Panda Sushi has officially opened its doors at 1220 W Patrick St, Frederick, MD 21703, taking over the space that was formerly a Pizza Hut. The opening was reported by Frederick City Media.
Two Maryland Thai restaurants (both in Montgomery County) earned a spot on Eater DC’s most list of “The Best Thai Restaurants in D.C.” While there are many wonderful Thai restaurants in the county, the publication’s recognition highlights the vibrant and authentic flavors available at these two restaurants just outside the nation’s capital.
