Several of the region’s major TV weather teams are starting to roll out early snowfall maps for a system expected to move through the DMV area late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Some are from last night and others are from this morning, with all likely to be refined throughout today and tomorrow.
Montgomery County’s Animal Services and Adoption Center will host a “Home for the Holidays” adoption event on Dec. 20–21, waiving all adoption fees and using appointments on Saturday with walk-ins welcome on Sunday.
MCPD Update: “The two-vehicle collision on Good Hope Rd. is now being investigated as a fatality. One adult male pronounced dead on scene. An adult male and juvenile in the second vehicle, transported with non-life-threatening injuries. Good Hope Rd. remains closed at this time.”
A serious traffic collision with entrapment shut down a portion of Good Hope Drive in Silver Spring (between Cloverly and Colesville) Tuesday morning, prompting a large emergency response and significant traffic delays.

Maryland State Police arrested a 24-year-old woman and charged her with first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of her five-week-old infant, whose autopsy showed evidence of trauma. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded at 4:35 a.m. to the 26100 block of Mullinix Mill Road in Damascus after a 911 caller reported a large outside field fire with power lines down next to a home. Firefighters arrived to find the field fire had extended into the house, with flames in the attic and a bedroom. (more…)
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded at 6:38 a.m. to a single-vehicle collision in the area of Dickerson Road and Mouth of Monocacy Road in Dickerson.
Montgomery County native and Florida State freshman Nyanya Touray is a national champion. The former Northwood High School standout helped lead the Seminoles to a 1-0 victory over Stanford in the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship on December 8 in Kansas City, Missouri. Florida State captured the title with a late goal from Wrianna Hudson, securing the program’s fifth national championship and its third in the last five years.
Jose Ulises Aguilar-Martinez, 23, pleaded guilty today to six charges connected to the July 2024 carjacking that killed 54-year-old Melody Waldecker of Silver Spring. The plea was entered in Loudoun County Circuit Court, just weeks before a jury trial was set to begin on January 5.
