Last year, IKEA announced plans to open new format IKEA stores in Fairfax, Virginia, and Gaithersburg, Maryland, in fall 2023. Signage went up in September at the Gaithersburg location (101 Boardwalk Place Ste 102- the former home of Charming Charlie) and now interior construction is progressing. A few people working on the store told us they hope to open in late March or early April.
Francesca’s, a nationwide chain of fashion and accessories boutiques based out of Texas, will close its Rio location in Gaithersburg on Saturday, February 3rd.
Le Macaron, which opened on December 18, will hold its on official grand opening celebration on Tuesday, January 23.

Silver Diner is requesting approval for a 1,581 square-foot pergola for outdoor dining at Silver Diner RIO. The pergola structure will include a louvered roof and walls with a guillotine-style window system (additional renderings below).
Peterson Companies, which owns Rio Lakefront, has submitted an application that proposes to add a floating pier for Guapo’s restaurant (additional photos below).

Le Macaron at 7 Grand Corner Ave (next to BurgerFi) in Gaithersburg’s Rio will opening at 10am on Monday, December 18th.
Locally Crafted will be closing its doors at its current storefront- located at 201 Boardwalk Place in Gaithersburg’s Rio Lakefront. The shop’s last day will be December 24th, 2023. A new location will open within Rio this spring, but the exact location and opening date has yet to be announced.
