At the beginning of this year, we let you know that McDonald’s closed permanently in the Westfield Wheaton mall food court (11160 Veirs Mill Rd.) and that it will be replaced by Burger King. BK has just received a permit valued at $239K to begin work on the transition, which should be open in the next few months.
Westfield Wheaton Mall will unveil an exciting pop-up photo adventure for fans of dinosaurs and blockbuster movies. The Immersive Jurassic Park Jungle Photo Experience will be set up in the Upper Center Court and offers visitors the chance to step into a world where dinosaurs once roamed from June 30th until July 9th.
Signage is now up at Westfield Wheaton Mall announcing that Wetzel’s Pretzels is “baking soon.”

Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence (L.E.A.D.), a dedicated nonprofit committed to safeguarding communities, is set to host a carnival at Westfield Wheaton from Friday, May 16 through Monday, May 26, 2025. The carnival was held at Westfield Montgomery last week.
Unibal-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) has defaulted on a roughly $235 million securitized loan tied to Westfield Wheaton– the largest mall in suburban Maryland and the fourth-largest in the Greater Washington area. The mall was originally built in 1958 and was known as Wheaton Plaza– the first shopping mall in Montgomery County.
