Takoma Park-Silver Spring Co-op will host its annual Earth Day celebration on Sunday, April 12, from 10am to 3pm, inviting the community to a free day of music, educational programming, food, and family-friendly activities. This year’s theme, “Change Grows Here,” highlights the Co-op’s focus on food, climate, and community. A community bike ride will also take place during the event.

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will host its first “Colorectal Cancer Awareness Walk for Life” on Friday, March 20 from 11 am to 1 pm at Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreational Park in Silver Spring. The free event will focus on raising awareness about colorectal cancer prevention and the importance of early detection, with on-site registration beginning at 10:30 am.

A barricade situation in the Layhill/Aspen Hill area Sunday afternoon ended with a 29-year-old man taken into custody after several hours of negotiations with police.
