Update: The incident is now being investigated as a homicide. Patrol officers later located the suspect, leading to a pursuit that ended in a crash. The suspect has been taken into custody, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Sir Walter Raleigh Inn is fondly remembered as an affordable steakhouse known for its extensive salad bar, making it a popular spot for homecoming dinners and birthday celebrations. The Montgomery Village location, now a CVS, closed in 2005, but the chain once had multiple locations across the DC Metro area, including Baltimore, Bethesda, Wheaton, and Alexandria. (more…)


The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect involved in a commercial burglary that occurred around 2:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Sunoco Gas Station in the 11240 block of Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton.

According to MCPD, the suspect is described as a Black male in his 20s or 30s with a thin build and long locks, was seen wearing a gray hooded sweater, no shirt, black pants, and orange with red sneakers. According to detectives, the suspect forced entry into the business, stole items of undisclosed value, and fled on foot.


Montgomery Parks is preparing to welcome visitors back to one of the county’s most beloved holiday traditions. The annual Garden of Lights display at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton will open for the season on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 5 p.m. Tickets go on sale Monday, October 13, 2025, at 10 a.m., and will be available online only at GardenofLights.org.

Montgomery County Recreation concluded the regular season of its NFL Flag Football leagues this past weekend at Wheaton High School. The program, which is offered each fall and spring for youth ages 6–14, drew 468 participants this season, including 84 girls. Long before television became a staple in every American home, one of the most groundbreaking broadcasts in U.S. history was sent from right here in Montgomery County. On July 2, 1928, Charles Francis Jenkins, a prolific inventor with more than 400 patents, launched W3XK, the nation’s first licensed commercial television station, from Wheaton, Maryland (Library of Congress; National Museum of American History).
