A Germantown Family is Hosting a Haunted Trail This October For Halloween

The Salgado family, known for their extravagant yearly Christmas display, is hosting a haunted walkthrough this year for Halloween at 11609 Lucrece Ter. in Germantown. The Christmas display will be returning following the Halloween display. The “Salgado’s Haunted Trail” was created by siblings Pahan and Supuli Salgado and their cousins Nimaya and Nipun (video and photos below).

They will be open Sunday, October 1 from 7:30pm-10pm and from October 6 through 15 from 7:30 to 10pm. Then they will open on October 20, 21, 22, 27, and 28, and on Halloween 31 October from 7:30pm to 10pm (all weather permitting).

Fall is here and the colors around us are about to change. Whether it’s the taste of a warm pumpkin-flavored latte, the cool breeze of a crisp fall morning, weekends full of football, or the yellow glow of the sun on a tall birch tree, autumn is often a contender for MoCo residents’ favorite season (however short it may be). Many locals are looking forward to combining all the best parts of fall and enjoying the foliage outdoors, so we’ve put together a small list of 11 where you can enjoy the foliage across the county:

Agricultural Reserve: A drive through the rural areas that the 93,000 acre Agricultural Reserve encompasses, along with the larger rural communities of Damascus and Poolesville and small crossroad communities such as Beallsville, Sunshine and Dickerson, are sure to give you your fill of fall foliage.

Former Montgomery County Planning Board Chair Casey Anderson Hired By Rodgers Consulting

Former Montgomery County Planning Board Chair Casey Anderson has been hired by Rodgers Consulting– a land development consulting company based in Germantown. Anderson resigned from the Planning Board amid allegations of creating a toxic work environment, but was fully exonerated in the investigation that followed. MCFRS Respond to Fallen Tree on Vehicle Sunday Afternoon

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 13500 blk of W. Old Baltimore Rd, near Lake Ridge Dr in Boyds for the report of a fallen tree on a vehicle. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the person that was driving vehicle is out and there were no serious injuries.

W. Old Baltimore Rd is blocked between Lake Ridge Dr and Broadway Ave. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.

Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan Listening Sessions Taking Place This October

Montgomery Planning to host a series of sessions in October to gather more community input about the plan area.

The Montgomery County Planning Department invites the community to four listening sessions in October to provide input on opportunities and challenges on the east side of Interstate 270 and west of MD 355 – the plan area for the Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan.

First Look at Margarita Bar & Grill in Germantown

Margarita Bar & Grill is now open at 19201 Frederick Rd in Germantown. The restaurant’s menu features a variety of tacos, burritos, chimichangas, pupusas, fajitas, steaks, salad, and seafood. Margarita options include Cadillac, Skinny, Flavored, Diablo, and Crazy. A video of the space and a few menu items is available in the video below.

Margarita Bar & Grill has taken over the space that was previously occupied by the Fraternal Order of Eagle #3509 and Captain Mori’s Seafood House. Seafood in the Buff, a mobile steamed crab business, operates out of the parking lot next to this location in the summer months.

County Executive Elrich’s Next ‘Community Conversation’ to Seek Input on Fiscal Year 2025 Operating Budget Will Be Tuesday, Sept. 26, in Germantown

Per Montgomery County: Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, along with the County’s regional services offices and community partners, is hosting a series of 10 “Community Conversations” from September through December to seek input on the Fiscal Year 2025 Operating Budget. The next conversation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. The BlackRock Center for the Arts is located at 12901 Town Commons Drive in Germantown.

Seven of the 10 conversations will be conducted in English, including one focusing on issues for older residents and another focusing on issues of importance to Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) members. For a County first, one of the forums will be conducted in Amharic (Oct. 18). Two other non-English language forums were on the schedule. The Sept. 21 forum was conducted in Spanish and the Nov. 27 forum will be in Chinese. A select number of Community Conversations will be held online so that residents have the option to participate remotely.

The Germantown Volunteer Fire Department Open House Has Been Postponed Until October 28th

The Germantown Volunteer Fire Department and Montgomery County Police Department District 5 will be holding a joint event on Saturday, October 28th from 12pm-3pm at 20001 Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 23, but has been postponed due to weather.

Spirit Halloween Update: Germantown and Rockville Locations Fall Through, First Look at Rio

The planned Spirit Halloween locations at 12940 Middlebrook Rd. (formerly Bed Bath & Beyond) in Germantown and 2210 Veirs Mill Rd., (formerly CVS) in Rockville will not be opening, according to a representative from Spirit. We’re told the upcoming Spirit store at 30 Grand Corner Ave. in Gaithersburg’s Rio will be the only Montgomery County location for 2023.

New at Spirit this year will be a buy online/pickup in-store option, as well as delivery through DoorDash. A sneak peak of the Rio location can be seen below. The store hopes to open within the next week.

Montgomery County’s Department of Health and Human Services Will Provide Sexual Health Services at New Germantown Location Beginning Monday, Oct. 9

Per Montgomery County: The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will begin providing sexual health services at the new Upcounty Sexual Health & Wellness Clinic beginning Monday, Oct. 9. The clinic, located at the Sidney Kramer Upcounty Regional Services Center, 12900 Middlebrook Road in Germantown, will offer free and low-cost testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STI) and HIV infection.

A community open house and ribbon cutting for the facility is planned for Thursday, Oct. 5 from 1-4 p.m.
