NFL Free Agency unofficially opened at noon today, and the Washington Commanders have plenty of money to spend. The team also have the second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft next month and nobody is sure on who the Commanders will take, with the pick likely being a quarterback. On Friday, Governor Wes Moore, Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, and the Moore-Miller Administration visited various locat​​ions in Montgomery County, including The Music Center at Strathmore, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service’s Search and Rescue Team headquarters, and the Montgomery County Police Department Drone Command Center. Education

The Board is composed of eight members: five elected members, each of whom resides in a different board of education district; two elected at-large members, and one student member. With the exception of the student member, all Board members must be registered voters of Montgomery County and may not be subject to the authority of the Board.

Arts

Montgomery County native Steven Rales won an Oscar for Best Live-Action Short Film as producer of the film, “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.” Rales was born in Bethesda in 1951. He founded Danaher Corporation in 1984 with his brother Mitchell Rales (part owner of the Washington Commanders and founder of Glenstone), where Steven Rales is chairman of the board.

Beyond MoCo

The National Cherry Blossom Festival returns from Wednesday, March 20, 2024 – Sunday, April 14, 2024. It’s planned to coincide as closely as possible with the blooming of the trees. The National Park Service (NPS) has predicted peak bloom for the DC area Cherry Blossoms to fall this year between March 23-26.
