Chris Rindov, a 2019 graduate of Rockville High School and captain of the Maryland soccer team, has been drafted in the second round of the MLS Draft by Sporting KC.
The 6’2, 190 pound defender from Rockville is coming off of a 2022 season where he was named First Team Big Ten and two-time Big Ten Player of the Week. In his time at Maryland, he was a three-time All Big Ten Academic Selection and went from a true walk on to starter to captain of the team. During his time at Rockville, he scored five goals and had an assist his senior year, being named a Washington Post Honorable Mention selection and first-team All-Montgomery County. He won four Maryland State Championships (2016-2019) and played club soccer at OBGC.
At approximately 6:15am on Thursday morning, The MoCoShow received a tweet from Alexis Reed reporting a water main break on Rockville Pike near Georgetown Prep. WSSC Water responded at 7:18am via Twitter stating that they “have crews working to shut off the water and will make repairs ASAP.”
At 7:09am, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) PIO Pete Piringer tweeted that there is a water main break on Rockville Pike and Strathmore Avenue, in the area of Georgetown Prep, with some lanes blocked. Video below:

Montgomery County Police have provided the following update on this afternoon’s fatal collision on Muddy Branch Rd in Gaithersburg:
On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at approximately 2:03 p.m., officers responded to the area of Muddy Branch Rd. and King James Way for the report of a collision between a vehicle and two pedestrians. The preliminary investigation has revealed that the two pedestrians were struck by a gray 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe that was traveling southbound on Muddy Branch Rd.
MCPS announced a systemwide closure for Friday, December 23, in alignment with Governor Hogan’s action to close state government agencies and offices. Schools were previously scheduled to be closed on Friday, 12/23, but now the systemwide closure includes schools and offices being closed for staff. Full message from MCPS below:

Montgomery County is hosting its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday tribute and celebration from 4–5:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16 at The Music Center at Strathmore. This free event, “We Are Martin,” will feature special guests, performing artists and a 200-student chorus from Spark M. Matsunaga Elementary School. Tickets will be available beginning Monday, Jan. 2.
The Montgomery County Volunteer Center is also hosting its annual MLK Day of Service from noon–3 p.m. on Jan. 16, at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, 5701 Marinelli Road in North Bethesda. Students can earn up to three Student Service Learning (SSL) hours for attending and participating. Service will continue throughout the week with virtual, home-based and other on-site projects hosted by a variety of organizations.
During the Try-Athlon, this fall’s physical activity challenge, nearly 5,000 MCPS employees picked three health goals, set measurable objectives and implemented a plan for reaching them. They took part in a variety of physical activities to compete for prizes, and more importantly, to adopt or maintain healthy lifestyles. Each of the top 15 schools averaged at least 75 minutes of physical activity per employee per day.
A trifecta of elementary schools has been selected for award prizes for being recognized as the healthiest schools in MCPS—Burtonsville, Glen Haven and S. Christa McAuliffe elementary schools.
The MCPS Districtwide Wellness Committee recently announced the winners of this year’s “MCPS Healthy Schools Award,” an opportunity created with Kaiser Permanente Thriving Schools and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. This program celebrates schools that have implemented remarkable initiatives related to one or more of the following areas: advancing core policies related to equity, diversity and inclusion; increasing family and community engagement; bolstering physical education and activity; strengthening social-emotional health, and cultivating staff well-being.
