Silver Spring

Denson was arrested without incident and transported to the Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with mail theft and felony theft. On November 3, 2022, Denson was released on his own recognizance.  The investigation is ongoing. Gaithersburg

The patriotic ceremony will include words and music to commemorate the occasion, followed by a solemn wreath-laying ceremony. City officials & members of local veterans groups will be on hand to honor those who have served in all branches of the military. The ceremony will begin with a Presentation of Colors. Junior Mayor Loriele Nix will lead the Pledge of Allegiance & 2020 Young Artist Award winner Chloe Jackson will sing the National Anthem. The Gaithersburg High School Jazz Ensemble will perform patriotic music & Gaithersburg High School Band member Marli Banner will play “Taps.” A reception with refreshments will immediately follow the ceremony in the City Hall Gallery.

Joining the observance will be special guest speaker Colonel Jeff Marquez, United States Army (Retired). Colonel Marquez retired after serving 30 years in the United States Army culminating at the National Security Council as Senior Director for Response Policy (Acting) & Director for Continuity Policy. Having served overseas & stateside, from the Pentagon & combat zones to the White House, Colonel Marquez now uses his skills and experience to help leaders & organizations be better. During his years of service, Colonel Marquez held leadership & staff assignments in the field artillery & led organizations in Army Major Commands, Army Staff, Joint Commands, & at the White House.

Just one day after Washington Commanders owners Dan and Tanya Snyder announced they’re exploring possibilities regarding the potential sale of the team, TMZ reported on Thursday that “Jay-Z and Jeff Bezos, two of the most successful men in America, are interested in buying the Washington Commanders, in light of owner Dan Snyder’s interest in selling the NFL team, sources tell TMZ Sports.”

On Wednesday, The Commanders released the following statement, titled “Washington Commanders Hire Bank of America Securities to Consider Potential Transactions”. Dan and Tanya Snyder and the Washington Commanders announced today that they have hired BofA Securities to consider potential transactions. The Snyders remain committed to the team, all of its employees and its countless fans to putting the best product on the field and continuing the work to set the gold standard for workplaces in the NFL.” Bank of America was in charge of the transaction that saw Steve Ballmer purchase the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers in 2014.


Crime

Per the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department: On Oct. 28, 2022, members of the Frederick County Human Trafficking Response Team (HRT), successfully executed numerous search and seizure warrants at several Frederick County massage parlors.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, law enforcement representatives detained Huiping Hester, age 52, from Bethesda, Maryland, without incident. Hester, transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, faces charges of two counts of sex trafficking and 14 additional counts associated with trafficking and prostitution. The investigation stemmed from numerous citizen complaints of suspicious activity occurring at the following locations:

Beyond MoCo

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office received a call for “multiple stabbings at Green Valley Elementary School” in Monrovia on Thursday afternoon from a caller who was informed by a school teacher to call police. Law enforcement officials responded immediately and quickly determined that no stabbings occurred.

Further investigation found that the teacher took 27 students through the woods to a local cafe, Buzz Café, and asked an employee to call 911 to report the stabbings. The school was initially placed on lockdown. The school then went into a “hold status” and then a “secure status” with dismissal taking place normally.

MCPS is asking the community to share its input for next year’s school calendar. This quick survey seeks to gauge the community’s opinions on the calendar scenarios developed for the 2023–2024 school year. Staff will use your feedback to develop a final recommendation to be presented at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
