Five Transported to Hospital After Multi-Vehicle Crash Monday Morning

At approximately 3am on Monday morning, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the 600 block of University Boulevard near Glenville Road and Langley Drive, in the area of Piney Branch Road.

MCFRS evaluated five patients and transported them to the hospital, including four trauma patients. All five injuries were non-life threatening, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer. Some lanes were initially blocked with delays extending until 7:25am. All lanes are now open.

Recount for Democratic County Executive Nominee Continues Monday Morning

The Montgomery County Board of Elections certified the 2022 Gubernatorial Primary Election on Saturday, August 13, 2022. Marc Elrich lead David Blair by 35 votes and a petition was filed by Blair for a recount of all votes cast in the contest for the Democratic Party’s nomination for the office of Montgomery County Executive.  The petitioner, David Blair, requested a manual recount of all voted paper ballots ( Maryland State Board of Elections Recount Guide ).

Montgomery County Board of Elections began the recount on Friday August 19, 2022, at the Germantown Community Recreation Center (Gym), 18905 Kingsview Rd, Germantown, MD 20874. After a recount of all early voting ballots and most from Election Day, the recount will continue into mail-in/provisional ballots on Monday and will be conducted from 09:30 AM to 7:00 PM daily until completed. As of now, it appears David Blair has narrowed the lead by one vote, to 34.

Effoi Restaurant Now Open at Former Site of Addis Ababa in Silver Spring

Effoi Restaurant held a grand opening last month in the building that was previously home to the iconic Addis Ababa restaurant at 8233 Fenton Street in Downtown Silver Spring. The new restaurant primarily serves Ethiopian cuisine and boasts of “spacious downstairs and upstairs seating areas, parking for guests, and high-quality delicious food prepared by our experienced chef.”

The restaurant is open seven days a week, from 11am until 2am. The menu consists of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items, including popular Ethiopian dishes, vegetarian offerings, some traditional breakfast items, a kids menu, and more. The restaurant transforms into Effoi Lounge in the later hours and offers music, food, drink, and hookah.

New Signage and Art at Recently Renovated Rock Grove Shopping Center on 355/Shady Grove Rd

Located at one of Montgomery County’s busiest intersections at Shady Grove Road & Route 355, the property at Rock Grove has completed its renovations by adding a new sign and artwork in the parking lot (photos below). The center consists of a medical office building with ground floor retail and a retail building. Renovations to both the retail center and the office building are now complete. The retail center has been structurally altered to provide maximum ceiling height and to increase its presence along this heavily travelled thoroughfare.

Per Promark Partners, an entirely new façade was installed along the length of the 14,000 square foot strip to include larger storefront glass, metal panels, and stone. The office building was also improved with a new stone façade and bright epoxy paint over the precast panels on floors 2 through 5. Additionally, site circulation has been improved and a new exterior stairway from the rear parking lot to the office and retail entrances was constructed.

JK Beer & Wine Now Open in Kentlands

Earlier this summer we let you know that JK Beer and Wine would be moving from its previous location at 800 Rockville Pike to 331 Kentlands Blvd, the former location of Liberty Income Tax, in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood in the space located on the other side of Giuseppi’s. The store officially opened late last week.

JK Beer and Wine opened at its previous Rockville Pike location in the Golden Arcade shopping center, next to Yuan Fu Vegetarian, in the fall of 2021. It took over the space that was previously home to Enterprise. The beer and wine had a hearing with Montgomery County’s Alcoholic Beverage Services (ABS) on Thursday, June 16th, where they were approved for a “transfer of location of a Class A, Beer and Wine License, Off Sale Only with delivery, for the premises known as JK Beer & Wine.” Construction didn’t take long and the store is ready to go (photos below).

Damascus Native Brian Stelter Signs Off of CNN’s ‘Reliable Sources’ for Final Time

CNN’s “Reliable Sources with Brian Stelter” came to an end on Sunday night after the company announced Thursday that it is ending the media analysis show that has aired in various iterations for 30 years (Stelter has hosted for nine years). Stelter is a native of Damascus, MD, where he was born and raised, graduating from Damascus High School in 2003.

After graduating from college in May 2007, Stelter joined The New York Times as a media reporter at the age of 22, making him one of the youngest staff members at the time. In November 2013, he became the new host of CNN’s Reliable Sources and also chief media correspondent.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division ask for Public’s Assistance in Locating Missing 16-Year-Old

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 16-year-old female.

Adele Anderson was last seen at approximately 11:45 a.m., in the 2700 block of Byron Street in Silver Spring. Anderson is approximately 5-feet tall and weighs 100 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a purple t-shirt, jeans and flip-flops. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.

Java Nation to Open Fourth Location (Silver Spring)

Java Nation, the cafe known for its house-roasted coffees, diverse food menu, and wide variety of local craft beers, wines and cocktails, will be opening its fourth location in Silver Spring. According to a Source of the Spring report, a construction permit shows that the newest store will be located at 1010 Wayne Ave.

Java Nation opened its first location at 10526 Connecticut Ave in Kensington back in 2012. Since then, the cafe has expanded to include locations in North Bethesda, at 11120 Rockville Pike, and Kentlands (Gaithersburg) at 121 Market Street. Additional information regarding the Silver Spring location has not yet been provided by Java Nation.

Beyond MoCo: Tailwind Air Announces First-Ever Seaplane Service to Washington, D.C. Area

Service will reduce total travel times by up to 60 percent and bypass congested trains and commercial airports and airline services. Fares are from $395 one way. Flights will operate from September 13 for six days a week up to twice daily and are timed for quick day trips and overnight stays.

Per Tailwind Air: Experienced seaplane operator Tailwind Air announces an exciting new destination, creating the fastest way to Washington, D.C. Travelers may now enjoy a nonstop seaplane flight directly from Manhattan’s Skyport Marina at East 23rd Street (IATA code: NYS) to Washington, D.C.’s College Park Airport (IATA code: CGS). Flights to/from Manhattan are approximately 80-90 minutes. Tailwind will be the only scheduled air service inside the Beltway outside of DCA. Scheduled service begins September 13, 2022, and will be operated by our fleet of Cessna Grand Caravans featuring two experienced pilots, eight Economy Plus leather seats, aisle and window access, crisp air-conditioning, and an ability to land on water or at an airport.

Charley’s Cheesesteaks and Wings is Coming to Germantown

Charley’s Cheesesteaks and Wings is coming to 19877 Century Blvd in Germantown. It will be taking over the location that was previously home to Roll by Goodyear and Yogi Castle in the Shops at Town Center & Century Station shopping center.

Charley’s now has over 600 stores nationwide. Newer locations have adopted a new menu concept, offering chicken wings and tenders alongside its Philly cheesesteaks, which this location will have. This Germantown location and the upcoming Gaithersburg location will both have the updated menu. “Tossed-to-order, the wings are made with 10 chef-inspired flavors ranging from Angry Ghost and Nashville Hot to milder options like Zesty Lemon-Lime Rub and Sweet Teriyaki. Customers can order classic or boneless wings and choose from sides including celery sticks, coleslaw, baked beans or Texas toast.”
