Quince Orchard and Stone Bridge, two of the region’s most decorated programs, are set to meet for the third time in as many years. QO owns the first two clashes, but anyone who’s watched knows the margin has been razor-thin. Both contests were decided by defense, field position, and the occasional big play. This time, the Bulldogs may be bringing their most dangerous group yet.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Montgomery Blair High School to present the preliminary design for the US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit Phase 2 project, which includes a dedicated bus lane between Sligo Creek Parkway and Tech Road, and to gather community feedback. Montgomery Parks is inviting families to enjoy a day of nature, creativity, and fun at Children’s Day at Brookside Gardens on Sunday, September 21, 2025, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free, family-friendly event is sponsored by Friends of Brookside Gardens and will offer handson gardening activities for children and a chance to explore the newly designed Children’s Garden.

MoCo Police

A potentially dangerous situation on Colesville Rd in Silver Spring ended without injuries Monday after a dump truck lost its brakes while traveling downhill toward Sligo Creek Parkway, according to Montgomery County Police Department District 3 Commander Jason Cokinos.

Montgomery Parks

Starting on or around September 29, Montgomery Parks will begin construction of the Little Falls Parkway project, a Vision Zero safety initiative to enhance bicyclist and pedestrian safety by reducing the total number of vehicular travel lanes and implementing traffic calming measures. Construction is expected to be completed in early December, depending upon weather conditions.

Crime

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) arrested 18-year-old Amilio Xavier Hernandez of Hyattsville on September 10 for an armed carjacking at the  Exxon gas station in the 10200 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring in June, charging him with armed carjacking and related offenses.
