For more than six decades, TDSI, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thales U.S.A, has supported critical national security missions, delivering advanced communications, intelligence, surveillance, and defense technologies to military and government customers around the world.
Last week, the company celebrated a significant expansion of its manufacturing operations in Clarksburg, Maryland.
Over the past year, TDSI also doubled its manufacturing floor footprint through a $4 million investment, expanding production capacity to support the company’s continued growth.
Today, TDSI employs approximately 675 people in Montgomery County, including roughly 250 manufacturing employees.
As demand for its technologies continues to grow, the company continues to expand and has added more than 225 positions locally over the past three years.

Montgomery County’s ban on gas-powered leaf blowers took effect on July 1, 2025, following legislation passed to address concerns related to noise, emissions, and health impacts. The law prohibits the use of handheld, backpack, and walk-behind gas-powered blowers and vacuums on private and commercial properties, as well as by local government agencies. In October we let you know that ZiZa Kabob, which opened its first restaurant at 7351 Assateague Dr. in Jessup, signed on to open its second location in the Twinbrook Quarter development that features the new Wegmans in Rockville. Now, the restaurant has secured a permit valued at $450K to begin interior construction.
Commas Food Hall, a new 13,000-square-foot food destination on the third level of Ellsworth Place (8661 Colesville Rd) in Downtown Silver Spring, recently soft opened with just some of its stalls currently operating. Tokoa Cheesesteaks, which local food reviewer “Big Schlim” has rated with his highest honor, “STAMP,” has just opened in the food hall.

Six people, including Toyia Johnson of Rockville, were found guilty in connection with a 2021 Labor Day weekend triple homicide in Washington, D.C., that left three people dead and three others injured. A jury convicted four defendants of murder and related charges, while Johnson and another individual were found guilty of tampering with evidence and acting as accessories after the fact. (more…)
