Maryland’s Good Samaritan Law protects people assisting in an emergency overdose situation from arrest, as well as prosecution, for certain crimes. Recently, Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy presented information about the state law.

Two Silver Spring residents, 24-year-old Manuel Perez and 20-year-old Jonathan Cruz, were arrested and charged in connection with a series of wheel thefts spanning over two years. Following their initial arrest on March 4, investigators linked Perez to additional thefts dating back to December 2023, leading to a search of his residence where officers recovered a firearm and fentanyl pills; he later turned himself in on March 27 and now faces additional charges. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has named 10 Montgomery College students among 467 semifinalists nationwide for its Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, selected from over 1,600 applicants across 212 community colleges. The scholarship provides financial aid, academic advising, and career support to high-achieving community college students with financial need as they transfer to four-year institutions.
