On Tuesday, June 17, the Montgomery County Council will consider a wide range of new legislation and zoning measures, including expanding property tax credits for child care providers, requiring labor peace agreements for certain hotel projects, creating a seasonal exemption to the gas leaf blower ban, supporting native plant protections, authorizing water cremation, and refining the duties of the County’s early care coordination entity.

Per the news release: “The Montgomery County Council will meet on Tuesday, June 17 at 9 a.m. and the meeting will begin with two proclamation presentations. The first, presented by Councilmember Evan Glass, will recognize the Weed Warriors. The second, presented by Council Vice President Will Jawando and Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles, will recognize Juneteenth.


MoCo Government

Montgomery County passed legislation in 2024 to address environmental, noise, and health concerns related to gas-powered leaf blowers and vacuums. Sales of gas-powered equipment have been banned since July 1, 2024, and the ban on their use begins in just a few weeks, effective July 1, 2025. (more…)


Announcement

Jamie McIntyre, former CNN military affairs and senior Pentagon correspondent, as well as former Washington Examiner senior writer for defense and national security, will speak about how the events on 9/11 and the aftermath ushered in a “post-truth” era in America. Jamie has written extensively on this topic and draws from a life-long career in journalism, including his time at the Pentagon on 9/11.

Bring your family and friends to our free , all-day outdoor Oktoberfest celebration. These will be an outdoor craft fair featuring local artisans and professional woodworkers, a chainsaw carving, woodworking and tool demonstrations by Festool, Montgomery Wood Turners and Carvers. There will also be lots of delicious food provided by El Parente Tacos, El Jeffe Wood-fired pizzas, Bruster's Ice cream and seasonal craft brews from Saints Row Brwsing Company.

The Great Frederick Fair is set to make its grand return to the Frederick fairgrounds from September 12th through September 20th, 2025. It’s sure to be packed with rides, agricultural exhibits, fair food, and an incredible lineup of major musical talent that many MoCo residents would love to drive up for.
