The Maryland State Police (MDSP) Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday on Interstate 70 in Frederick County.
The Gaithersburg Police Department shared via social media that it has recently received complaints regarding a phone scam in which the caller falsely claims to be an officer with the Gaithersburg Police Department.

With the Fourth of July approaching, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2025’s Most Patriotic States in America, with Maryland coming in ranked #8. Locally, in Montgomery County, various fireworks events have been announced for Independence Day weekend.
Westland Middle School, located at 5511 Massachusetts Ave. in Bethesda, will be closed on Monday, June 16, following significant damage caused by a downed tree. The removal of the tree has necessitated the closure of several classrooms, and operations for Tuesday have not yet been determined. A message went out to the Westland community on Sunday night:
Jamie McIntyre, former CNN military affairs and senior Pentagon correspondent, as well as former Washington Examiner senior writer for defense and national security, will speak about how the events on 9/11 and the aftermath ushered in a “post-truth” era in America. Jamie has written extensively on this topic and draws from a life-long career in journalism, including his time at the Pentagon on 9/11.

On Saturday, we participated in Lone Oak Brewery’s 5th birthday celebration, featuring food trucks Grubbing Hard BBQ and Jimmy’s Famous Seafood. Jimmy’s has previously been named the best Crabcake in the country by Food & Wine and ranked #1 in Maryland by us here at The MoCoShow. We asked 30 customers who ordered a crabcake or crabcake sandwich to rate it from 1 to 10.
On June 4, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin joined contractors in Spotsylvania County to mark a construction milestone at the future $900 million Kalahari Resort, set to open in November 2026. In the 2025 UFL Championship Game, the DC Defenders staged a dramatic second-quarter surge that would define their 58-34 win over the Michigan Panthers. During that quarter alone, the Defenders piled on 31 points while holding the Panthers to a mere six, a shift that ultimately determined the game. Five former Washington Commanders/Redskins players are currently involved with the team.

Virginia’s first Buc-ee’s will open on June 30th at 838 Friedens Church Rd. in Mount Crawford, VA. It will be located at the exit 240 interchange on Interstate 81 near Harrisonburg, just over 125 miles and roughly two hours from most parts of Montgomery County. The opening date was shared by the official social media page of Rockingham County, VA.
