Bitez, a new dining establishment specializing in halal cuisine, has officially opened its doors at 13525 Clopper Rd. in Germantown’s Seneca Plaza– located near Mamma Lena and Rio Grande. The restaurant offers a diverse menu that includes options such as chicken over rice, lamb gyro over rice, falafel over rice, pita wraps, salads, desserts, and drinks.
Maryland holds the distinction of being the only U.S. state without any natural lakes. All of Maryland’s “lakes,” such as Deep Creek Lake and Loch Raven Reservoir (and every other lake), are actually man-made reservoirs created by damming rivers.

FingerLicking SoulFood, a Jamaican-style restaurant that began as a food truck in Frederick County, is now open in the Westfield Wheaton Mall food court.
The Learning Experience, an 11,972-square-foot preschool and daycare center, is currently under construction at 9963 Stedwick Road in Montgomery Village. According to Maryland Newsletters, the project is valued at $2.87 million. (more…)

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is conducting a major boundary study in light of new developments and expansions within the school district. The study is driven by the upcoming openings of Crown High School and Woodward High School, as well as the planned expansion of Damascus High School. MCPS has announced that the boundary survey will be closing soon and is urging stakeholders to participate, as the outcomes could directly affect where students will attend school.
Montgomery County-based Steeze Burger, previously recognized as the #1 burger in the DC area by the Washington Post, has garnered a large following, resulting in long lines and thousands of fans throughout the region. This week, they partnered with Leon’s Smashburgers, a renowned brand from Australia, for two pop-up events. Taim Mediterranean Kitchen, a well-known falafel and Mediterranean food chain based in New York, is planning to expand into Maryland, according to a report by BizJournals. The chain initially entered the region with locations in Washington, D.C., and Virginia over the past few years. However, all but one of those locations have since closed. The sole remaining store in the area is located at 1514 Connecticut Ave NW in Washington, D.C.
Jeffrey’s Subs & Pizza at 15547 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville, which operated as Jerry’s Subs & Pizza for three decades before rebranding in 2020, has closed permanently. The contents of the restaurant will be auctioned off next week.
Eduardo Valdivia, a federal agent, has been convicted on six counts of second-degree rape and two counts of fourth-degree sexual offense by a jury, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney Office. The jury reached its decision after deliberating for just over three hours. Valdivia’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 14 at 1:30 pm.
