Chevy Chase

On Tuesday, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) announced that a Montgomery County Transit Services employee had been arrested and charged with assault and endangerment after allegedly strangling and physically attacking a pregnant woman during an altercation on a Ride On bus in Chevy Chase. Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Director Chris Conklin released the following statement regarding the incident:

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is inviting high school students to participate in its annual “Heads Up, Phones Down” contest by creating short videos promoting safe, distraction-free walking and driving, with prizes up to $800 and student service learning hours available for participants.

Announcement

On August 22, the New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) will host the 2026 Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day from 9 am-4 pm at the Interdenominational Church of God in Gaithersburg, gathering volleyball teams, faith community members, and the public to raise funds to help recent refugees in Montgomery County attain independence.

An interfaith non-profit alliance of 37 faith communities and civic groups, NNIA raises funds to help resettled refugees with rental assistance, deferred medical care, English language skills and job placement. They also hope to expand their volunteer numbers to help more beneficiaries with job assistance, reliable transportation, and mentoring.

The Montgomery County Council unanimously passed a bill that delays the collection of impact taxes from the start of a housing project to its completion, aiming to reduce upfront construction costs while maintaining funding for schools and transportation infrastructure. (more…)
