After over 30 years Chuck E. Cheese has decided to close its Gaithersburg location. Earlier this year the Wall Street Journal reported that the company was $1 billion in debt, but the company has avoided filing for bankruptcy so far. We are told the Rockville and Takoma Park locations will remain open for carry-out and will be re-opening their arcades this coming Monday.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich has announced that the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) have agreed to a new policy requiring officers to intervene when they witness excessive force by other officers. The Use of Force Intervention Policy, which went into effect on Thursday, June 11, states that it shall be the duty of every officer present at any scene where physical force is being applied to either stop, or attempt to stop, another officer when force is being inappropriately applied or is no longer required.
Popeyes is taking over the old Zoe’s Kitchen spot in the Kentlands (177 Kentlands Blvd).
Soon after Zoe’s Kitchen closed its Kentlands location back in September of 2018, rumors swirled that Popeyes would be taking over the location.
Last September we told you that La Brasita would be taking over the old Greatest American Hot Dogs location in the Red Mill shopping center (7206 Muncaster Mill Rd).
Today we were told they hope to open by the end of June.
It has been almost a year since we announced that Bear Brick Oven Pizza would be taking over the old Greek Islands Grill location on New Hampshire Ave. in Cloverly.
A couple weeks back we stopped by to check on how things were going and saw some progress made inside.
CVS is currently offering drive-thru COVID testing in 10 MoCo locations, after adding six more locations today.
To get tested you must register on www.cvs.com and there are no out of pocket costs for the tests whether you’re insured or not.

The Maryland Department of Transportation announced in a release that it will reopen select branch offices of the MVA to customers on a limited basis beginning Monday, June 8.
The Gaithersburg and White Oak MVA locations in MoCo are included in the limited openings.
During the June 1st City Council meeting, the City of Gaithersburg discussed a proposed amendment that would potentially change the voting age from 18 to 16 in city elections.
In 2013, Takoma Park became the first city in the United States to extend voting rights to 16 and 17 year olds for city elections.
