Planta, An Upscale Plant-Based Restaurant, Announces Opening Date

Back in January we told you that Planta, an upscale plant-based restaurant featuring a menu by Chef David Lee, would be coming to 4910 Elm St at Bethesda Row, in the location formerly occupied by Cafe Deluxe (Cafe Deluxe closed permanently back in March of last year). We spoke with a representative from Planta two weeks back, who told us that the restaurant planned to open in February.

An official opening date has been set, as Planta will be open for business son Saturday, February 12th, according to the restaurant’s social media. Reservations can be made via Resy.com

Stretch Zone Opens First Maryland Location in MoCo

Stretch Zone, the nation’s first and largest practitioner-assisted stretching company, continues expanding throughout the United States with its first Maryland location now open in the Kentlands neighborhood of Gaithersburg. Stretch Zone takes over the former GNC location at 251 Kentlands Blvd, the former home of GNC.

Stretch Zone, the company that brought practitioner-assisted stretching to the public and introduced a new vertical in the health and wellness industry, closed out 2021 with a record-breaking year of milestones, from its fastest growth of studio openings to its highest-revenue year.

Rakugaki, a New Sushi Restaurant by Raku, To Open at Wildwood

Bethesda favorite Raku will open Rakugaki at the Shops at Wildwood in the Fall of 2022. The 2,188-square-foot restaurant will be located at 10223 Georgetown Road near Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream. Raku’s Bethesda and Cathedral Heights locations as well as Rakuya at Dupont Circle remain open.

When deciding on a new location, co-owner Marcel The said, “We love the Bethesda community which we have served for the past 25 years. We feel that Wildwood is the perfect choice for our newest restaurant where we will feature favorite menu items as well as introduce new offerings.”

Feasty Crab in Derwood Awaiting Final Inspection; Hopes to Open This Month

Back in April we let you know that Feasty Crab would be taking over the old Red, Hot, & Blue location at 16811 Crabbs Branch Way in Derwood/Redland/Rockville.

We spoke with a representative at the restaurant back in October who told us that it would be open “in about a month” pending inspections. Things have taken a little longer than expected, but only the final inspection is left and the restaurant hopes to open this month.

Amazon Grocery Store to Be Included in White Oak Town Center, According to Recent Report

Back in July we shared preliminary plans for the upcoming White Oak Town Center that included updated renderings. In the renderings there was a noticeable change in the grocery store that was depicted. In earlier drawings, the grocery store designs resembled Trader Joe’s, but the updated renderings resembled Amazon Fresh.

This morning, BizJournals reported that “Amazon has reached a deal to open a new supermarket at a long-planned Silver Spring redevelopment fewer than three miles from the Food and Drug Administration’s campus”, referring to White Oak Town Center. “The team behind the White Oak Town Center has swapped a 41,000-square-foot Amazon-branded market, likely an Amazon Fresh, in for what had been a roughly 16,000-square-foot Trader Joe’s.”

Eko House, a Modern Pan-African Restaurant, to Hold its Soft Opening Next Week in Rockville Town Square

Back in August 2021 we let you know Èkó House would be coming to the space formerly occupied by Bar Louie at 150 Gibbs St. in Rockville Town Square. The restaurant has announced its soft opening for this upcoming week.

Opening Date Announced for Sip & Develop in Downtown Silver Spring

Sip & Develop at 8501 Fenton Street in Downtown Silver Spring will hold its grand opening on March 5, according to a report by Source of the Spring.

The location will allow you to choose your activity from their selection of in-house photography, camera sign-out self photography, film development, or a combination of each, all while you bring your own beverages to enjoy.

Gaithersburg

Dunkin Donuts on 355 and Shady Grove to Relocate to Drive-Thru Location

The Dunkin Donuts that’s located in the recently renovated Rock Grove Center on the corner of 355 and Shady Grove will be relocating, according to Chris Wilkinson of JBG Smith. It will be moving to the back side of the shopping center, taking over the old United Bank location at 16268 Frederick Rd. The bank had a drive-thru, which will be used by Dunkin’.

Due to the design and location of the drive-thru, traffic should not see any major impacts on Shady Grove Rd or 355. Qdoba will be opening soon in Rock Grove and the shopping center is in talks to bring on additional retailers in the near future.
