North Bethesda

Lao Sze Chuan, a Chinese restaurant with most of its locations in the Chicago area (as well as locations in Minnesota and Connecticut), is opening today in the space formerly occupied by BRIO Tuscan Grille at 20 Paseo Drive, in North Bethesda.

Brio closed in 2017 after five years in the location

Bethesda

It has been nearly two years since it was announced that the Michael Schlow restaurant group would bring The Riggsby to Bethesda. Now it’s confirmed that The Riggsby won’t be coming, after all.

After multiple reader tips, we called The Salt Line DC today and spoke with a representative who was able to confirm that the restaurant would be moving in to 4900 Hampden Lane– the space that was formerly home to Kapnos (and would have been home to The Riggsby). We were also told a Ballston, VA location would be opening in 2-3 weeks.

Bethesda

This past summer we let you know that New York based Mexican restaurant Mexicue, which has a nearby location at 1720 14th St NW in DC, would be coming to 4733 Elm St., the former site of Gusto Farm to Street.

The restaurant has its Montgomery County ABS hearing for a beer, wine, and liquor license set for October 7th at 1:30pm.

Olney

For a couple months we have seen job listings for an &Pizza location in Olney, but haven’t been able to get any further information. This evening we were able to confirm that the customizable pizza place will be coming to the Fair Hill shopping center in Olney. Though we don’t have an exact location at the moment, it appears as though it will take over a location that is currently home to an existing business.

&pizza was founded by Michael Lastoria and Steve Salis (Ted’s Bulletin, Federalist Pig, and Ensemble) in 2012 with their first location on H Street in D.C. The growing chain now has over 36 locations across the east coast including MoCo locations in Bethesda, Gaithersburg (Crown), Germantown, Pike & Rose, Silver Spring and a second Gaithersburg location coming soon.

Bethesda

Paris in Town, a French bakery and Cafe based in Florida, is opening a Bethesda location at 4903 Cordell Avenue in the spot that was formerly home to Smashburger, Fuse Taco, and more.

The cafe has recently erected signage and offers the following per its website: “Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Homemade soups, Crepes and Pastries, Cafe au Lait, Espresso, Organic Teas. Imported Wine and Cheese, Escargots, Salads and Sandwiches, Smoked Salmon, European beers, Cappuccino, and a lot more.”

Wheaton

Hook & Reel will have its beer, wine, and liquor license hearing on Thursday, October 7th at 9:30am.

It has been nearly two years, December of 2019, since we let you know that the Cajun seafood restaurant and bar would be coming to MoCo with two new locations (Gaithersburg and Wheaton).

Germantown

The wait is over, as the much anticipated opening of La Gula Mexicana is here. The restaurant is currently holding a soft opening, as they train new staff and work out a few kinks prior to fully opening.

La Gula Mexicana is owned and operated by the same people who have brought you Taco Bar El Guero (located in Gaithersburg near Rio) and Ixtapalapa on 355 in Gaithersburg.
