Montgomery County Police Investigating Pedestrian Hit and Run Collision That Occurred Thursday Night

At approximately 9:54 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian.

Officers arrived at the scene and located a 19-year-old male of Gaithersburg, suffering from serious injuries. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening-injuries.

Witnesses stated that the striking vehicle had continued northbound on Columbia Pike without stopping after the collision. Officers identified vehicle parts left behind by the striking vehicle and determined it to be a grey Ford Fusion. Officers searched surrounding community parking areas and located a grey 2014 Ford Fusion that had damage consistent with a pedestrian collision, in the White Oak area. The parts located on scene matched the parts missing from the vehicle. Officers also identified and located the driver of the striking vehicle.

The investigation by detectives has determined that the pedestrian was crossing northbound Columbia Pike from east to west when he was struck in or near the crosswalk by a grey 2014 Ford Fusion that was traveling northbound on Columbia Pike, approaching Prelude Dr. The intersection is controlled by traffic and pedestrian signals. The light cycle at the time of the collision is under investigation.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. CRU Detectives continue to examine the circumstances of this collision and if charges are to be filed against the driver, it will be done following completion of the investigation and in consultation with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this collision. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact CRU detectives at 240-773-6620.
