The investigation determined that a male suspect entered the store and asked to try on a pair of sneakers. Upon trying them on, he stated that he wanted to purchase them. The employee then took the sneakers to the counter as the suspect continued to shop. The suspect picked out a shirt and approached the counter. The suspect appeared to attempt to use his phone to pay with a mobile app and then took cash out of his pocket.  The suspect then grabbed a pair of scissors that were on the counter, walked behind the counter and demanded that the employee get out of his way. The employee complied with the suspect’s demands. The suspect then took the sneakers from the clerk, removed his shoes and put on the new sneakers. Upon attempting to exit the store, the store manager confronted the suspect. The suspect then brandished the scissors and threatened her before fleeing the store.

The suspect is described as a Black male, 25 to 30-years-old. He is approximately 6-feet-tall with a thin build. He was wearing a light-colored North Face hoodie, light-colored skinny jeans with paint stains and braided locs.

Per Zero Deaths Maryland, “In April 2022, Maryland lawmakers passed SB 176, a bill that will upgrade the state’s law that protects children traveling on our roadways. The new law goes into effect on October 1, 2022, and states that children must be kept rear-facing until at least two years of age, unless the child meets or exceeds the height and weight on the seat’s guidelines. Having a seat that properly fits the child is also another important consideration. SB 176 brought Maryland in line with laws in 16 other states (CA, CT, IL, LA, ME, NE, NJ, NY, NV, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, VA, WA) and the District of Columbia.”

Olney

“For Sale” signage is up at the Olney Ale House at 2000 Olney-Sandy Spring Rd in Olney. Owner John Roach tells us that he is looking to sell the 99-year-old building to someone that will continue to run it as the Olney Ale House restaurant.  A kitchen fire caused the restaurant to shut down in 2019 and COVID-19 only compounded the issues for the restaurant.  There will be additional information regarding the potential sale/reopening of the Olney Ale House in the next few weeks, according to Roach.

Back in July of 2021 it was announced that the Montgomery County Green Bank and Sandy Spring Bank would be teaming up to provide flexible financing to help the Olney Ale House re-open. Roach tells us that both financial institutions are still committed to helping the Ale House reopen. As we wait for the reopening, we wanted to share with you its history, courtesy of the Olney Ale House website:

President Joe Biden released a statement this morning announcing a tentative agreement reached between labor unions and rail lines. The tentative agreement will exempt “time off for certain medical events from carrier attendance policies,” according to a joint statement from the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen and the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers (SMART). Full statement by Oresident Biden can be seen below:

“The tentative agreement reached tonight is an important win for our economy and the American people. It is a win for tens of thousands of rail workers who worked tirelessly through the pandemic to ensure that America’s families and communities got deliveries of what have kept us going during these difficult years. These rail workers will get better pay, improved working conditions, and peace of mind around their health care costs: all hard-earned. The agreement is also a victory for railway companies who will be able to retain and recruit more workers for an industry that will continue to be part of the backbone of the American economy for decades to come.
