Bethesda

Amazon announced earlier this month that it plans to close all 68 of its brick-and-mortar bookstores, pop-ups and shops carrying toys and home goods (including Amazon 4 Star) in the United States and United Kingdom.

Amazon has an Amazon 4 Star location in Montgomery Mall in Bethesda and one that was planned for Germantown, with signage at that location recently going up. The Montgomery Mall Amazon 4 Star location will be closing permanently today, March 19th.  The Germantown location will no longer be opening, despite the recent signage that was erected prior to Amazon’s announcement.


News

Leon Harris returned to NBC 4 on Friday, his first time appearing on the air since his January 29 arrest for DUI.

Harris called his decision to drink and drive the “stupidest decision he could have made,” and said he knew that he let a lot of people down, and that is why he decided to take the past month to reflect and seek professional help.


Maryland

Governor Hogan signed a bill today that will suspend Maryland’s gas tax of $.36 a gallon for the next 30 days.  Drivers with a standard 12 gallon tank will save $4.32 each time they fill up.

The State of Maryland is estimated to lose close to $100 million in tax revenue during this period.  Maryland announced recently that it had a projected budget surplus of more than $7.5 billion.


Silver Spring

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 4th District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing man from Silver Spring.

On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at approximately 9 a.m., 66 year-old Derek Antonio Carney was last seen leaving his residence in the 10800 block of Georgia Avenue.

Southern Management Cos has written a letter to Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and the County Council, on behalf of 48 Montgomery County Apartment communities and 14 multi-family owner/developers/managers, expressing their concern with the rent hike cap, citing various reasons.

Germantown

Butler’s Orchard and Farm Market at 22222 Davis Mill Rd. in Germantown opens today for its 72nd season. There you will find produce, dairy, home décor, baked goods, and a garden center.

The Farm Market will be open Tuesdays-Sundays from 9am-6pm.  The farm’s park is scheduled to open on April 30th.


Chevy Chase

Baltimore-based ice cream shop is making its move into MoCo, with a location coming soon to Chevy Chase Lake in Chevy Chase. According to OpenCorporates, The Charmery will be moving in to 8551 Connecticut Avenue, Suite 202, a 1,306 SF location. Currently, The Charmery has locations in Hampden, Union Collective, Towson, Federal Hill, and it’s first locstion outside of Baltimore, in Columbia, that opened about a year ago.

The restaurant shop is owned and operated by David and Laura Alima. The Charmery started in 2013 with their its first location in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore, MD. Per the Howard County Economic Development Authority:
