Transformer Fire Closes Portion of Old Georgetown Rd Saturday Morning

7:19am Update: All lanes are open at this time

Montgomery County Police has issued the following traffic advisory on Saturday morning (6:53am): “Utility work has westbound Old Georgetown Road closed from Tuckerman Lane to I-495. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect significant delays.”

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Servuces (MCFRA) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, a transformer fire with wires down across three lanes is the cause for the road closure. It has occurred in the area of Old Georgetown Rd & Tuckerman Lane. Featured photo courtesy of Google Maps.
