Today we are recapping some of last week’s huge matchups that have led to more big games for MCPS high schools in the Maryland State Football Playoffs.

4A West: Churchill Dominates, Faces BCC in Quarter Final Clash- In a resounding 41-14 victory over Gaithersburg, Churchill displayed why they hold the top seed in the 4A West. The Bulldogs unleashed a relentless running game, amassing 278 yards and securing six touchdowns as a team. They now face BCC, a team they bested earlier in the season after a halftime deficit. The Barons, fresh off an upset against Paint Branch, will rely on their unpredictable triple-option offense to challenge Churchill. Prediction: Churchill by 14

Walter Johnson Faces Tough Test Against Wise- Walter Johnson’s historic playoff run faces a stern test against Wise. The Wildcats, with a 21-7 win over Blair, showcased a potent rushing attack, accumulating 214 yards and scoring three touchdowns. However, Wise, a perennial powerhouse, trounced Bowie with an astounding 406 rushing yards and seven touchdowns as a team. Can Walter Johnson continue their remarkable journey against this formidable opponent? Prediction: Wise by 21

Northwest Seeks to Build on Upset Momentum- Northwest stunned Quince Orchard, ending their 39-game win streak in a thrilling 29-26 upset. Now, they face Broadneck, who defeated Dundalk 17-6. Northwest’s air attack, led by 207 passing yards and two touchdowns, will clash with Broadneck’s resilient defense. The Black Hole in Germantown is sure to witness an intense battle as the Jaguars look to maintain their momentum. Prediction: Northwest by 2

4A/3A: Blake Awaits Urbana in Quarter Final Showdown- Undefeated Blake, led by quarterback Kirby Matson’s stellar performance (294 passing yards, 4 touchdowns), faces Urbana in the quarterfinals.
