Update: Detectives Investigate Connecticut Avenue Fatal Collision; Victim’s Identity Released


Montgomery County Police has released additional information regarding a fatal collision that that occurred on Saturday, March 9.

Per the news release:  At approximately 12:19 a.m., Montgomery County Police, Chevy Chase Village Police, and Montgomery County Fire/Rescue responded to the area of Connecticut Avenue at Quincy Street for the report of a collision involving a white 2023 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck and a white 2012 Mercedes SLK.

The initial investigation has revealed that both vehicles were traveling northbound on Connecticut Avenue, approaching Quincy Street when, for reasons unknown at this time, they collided in the roadway. After the initial contact, the Dodge struck a Pepco pole and several trees, while the Mercedes overturned. During the collision, the driver of the Dodge, 29-year-old, Jobani Alfredo Cruz of Washington, D.C.,was ejected from the truck, and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

The adult female passenger of the Dodge and the adult male driver of the Mercedes were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
