Maryland Department of Environment (MDE) has issued a Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert today for parts of the state. In Montgomery County and other parts of the DMV, the air quality remains at Code YELLOW, which is described as “moderate.”
The areas in the state that are in Code ORANGE mainly include places/counties in and around the Baltimore area. Air pollution is unhealthy for sensitive groups such as children, seniors & those with respiratory or heart conditions. Avoid strenuous activity outdoors.
Per MDE: Isolated USG conditions possible around the Baltimore area Monday. Temperatures will be well above normal Monday thanks to southerly flow linked to high pressure off the Southeast Coast. Plentiful sunshine along with the return of weekday NOx emissions will help to push ozone levels into the Moderate range for much of the state.
Isolated USG conditions are possible around metro Baltimore, extending eastward along the northern Chesapeake Bay coast. The situation will be monitored closely. Expect more in the way of cloud coverage beginning Tuesday as a weaking frontal system passes through the area. Temperatures will also drop a bit, helping to keep ozone levels in check.
