The Montgomery County Police Department’s (MCPD) 3rd District Commander, Captain Jason Cokinos, has shared that high visibility patrols by MCPD will be added in and around Downtown Silver Spring parking garages later this week.

On Wednesday afternoon, shortly after 3 pm, Wootton High School was alerted to police activity along Wootton Parkway in Rockville following an alleged threat by a current and former student to harm the school. The police detained the involved individuals, and as a precaution, the school transitioned to a shelter-in-place– bringing athletes inside from the fields until an update was received from Montgomery County Police.
On March 31, Twinbrook Elementary School became a hub of community spirit as parents, students, neighbors, and local organizations gathered for Community Care Day. The day’s activities– from tree planting and landscaping to constructing benches, mulching, and improving storm drains– transformed the school’s outdoor space into a welcoming environment for learning and growth. The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) shared at 1:52pm on Wednesday that Watkins Mill High School in Montgomery Village is on lockdown.
On Tuesday night, Montgomery County Police 3rd District officers, using License Plate Reader technology, identified a stolen vehicle in downtown Silver Spring, leading to a short pursuit that ended with the fleeing on foot and being apprehended with assistance from the Prince George’s Police Department’s helicopter “Guardian.” (more…)
