With the unemployment rate at 4.1% and labor force participation at one of the highest levels in years, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on the “Best & Worst States for Jobs in 2024”, to help those still seeking jobs find the best locations for their new careers. Maryland came in ranked #10 overall, down from being ranked #6 overall in 2023.

Education

Niche has released its “2025 Best Public Middle Schools” rankings based on “rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Ranking factors include state test scores, student-teacher ratio, student diversity, teacher quality, middle school ratings, and the overall quality of the school district.” The top 25 public middle schools in the state of Maryland, according to their list, can be seen below:

Gaithersburg

HIP Projects LLC submitted an amendment to its sketch plan application for “Block R” of The Spectrum at Watkins Mill, proposing the removal of the age restriction (age-restricted properties typically are reserved for a population that is 55 years of age and older), an increase in the number of dwelling units from 158 to 244, and raising the height limit from six stories to seven stories.
