Shop Maryland Tax-Free week begins on Sunday, August 11, and runs through Saturday, August 17. Any clothing and shoes that cost $100 or less will be exempt from Maryland’s 6% sales tax this week. The first $40 of any backpack will also be exempt from the 6% sales tax.

Back in March 2023, we reported that Umi Hot Pot, Sushi & Seafood Buffet would be taking over the space that was recently home to Miller’s Ale House and previously home to Hooters and Shakey’s at 1471 Rockville Pike in Rockville. Umi has shared on social media that it will be opening today– Friday, August 9th.

MCPS will join Baltimore City Public Schools and Washington County Public Schools as school districts that will pilot girls’ flag football during the Fall 2024 season, joining Frederick County Public Schools, which successfully piloted girls’ flag last year. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a 2nd alarm at the Spencerville Seventh Day Adventist Church, located at 16325 New Hampshire Ave, near Norbeck Road in Cloverly/Ednor at approximately 1:30am.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a tree that fell onto a house during the storm in Montgomery Village at approximately 9:30pm.
WSSC Water crews quickly responded to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) today near 19110 Liberty Mill Rd. in Germantown (we initially reported this as a water main break). Crews remain on-site working to install bypass to stop overflow. Drinking water is not impacted.
Montgomery Parks will temporarily close portions of Sligo Creek Parkway beginning on or about September 16, 2024, to allow for the construction of the Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) Purple Line Light Rail Project. During this time, the project team will place light rail tracks and reconstruct the intersection along Wayne Avenue at Sligo Creek Parkway, while Montgomery Parks incorporates other improvements to the roadway.
