With 13% of young Americans neither working nor in school, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on the States with the Most At-Risk Youth in 2024 to identify the places where more effort is needed to help young adults succeed. Maryland came in as the state with the 9th least at-risk youth in 2024.

Today Fortune launched the third annual Fortune 50 Best Places to Live for Families 2024, showcasing the cities and towns across America that best support the unique needs of multigenerational families. Montgomery County’s very own Silver Spring was ranked first on the list.

Crime

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department’s (MCPD 5th District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying six unknown suspects involved in a shooting in Germantown last week. A video is available below.

Education

Earlier this month the University of Maryland College of Education has named former MCPS superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight as its inaugural Dean’s Fellow and Superintendent in Residence, effective August 23. The decision was met with mixed reactions, with some supportive of the hiring and others against it to the point of a petition being created asking the university to reverse its decision to hire McKnight. Moderately MOCO reported this evening that McKnight’s salary is “$150,000 for a 9 month appointment.”
