Germantown

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at a three-story townhouse on Skip Jack Drive in Germantown, on Tuesday, December 31.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire was caused by a space heater placed too close to combustibles or an overheating cord, resulting in approximately $13,000 in damage.

Alert Montgomery issued the following on Tuesday, December 31: “A Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Wednesday, 1/1. Expect wind gusts greater than 40 mph. Wind gusts of this magnitude will make driving high profile vehicle difficult, and cause loose outdoor objects to be blown around. Secure loose outdoor objects to prevent property damage.” (more…)


Crime

According to District 3 Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander Jason Cokinos,  a community member in downtown Silver Spring spotted a suspect breaking into cars around 3 AM and called 911, enabling MCPD 3rd District officers to swiftly apprehend the individual. The suspect, linked to at least two thefts, was charged and transported to central booking. (more…)

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) is reminding residents that all fireworks are illegal in Montgomery County, MD.

On New Year’s Eve, MCFRS Spokesperson Pete Piringer took to Twitter to emphasize the message, stating: “Do What’s Right – Don’t Ignite.”
