Olney

Brew Belly at 18065 Georgia Ave in Olney has announced it will be holding a Cheesesteak Eating Contest on July 4 at 12:00pm. The winner of the contest, which is open to the first 20 people to sign up, will win free cheesesteaks from the restaurant for one year. The $20 entry fee will be donated to K9s for Warriors. In addition to cheesesteaks, Brew Belly boasts of over 250 Maryland-born brews, between its ever-changing (24 tap) beer list, to its well-stocked (12 door), reach-in, self-serve cooler.

Germantown

Jay Turner, age 41, was last seen on Monday, June 20, 2022, leaving his residence on Apple Harvest Cir.

Turner is approximately 5-feet, 11-inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has blue eyes and is bald. It is unknown what he was last seen wearing.


Damascus

The investigation by detectives determined that the pedestrian exited a northbound Ride-on bus and immediately crossed Woodfield Rd. at the rear of the bus. As the pedestrian entered the southbound lanes, he was struck by a silver 2003 Honda CRV traveling southbound.

The juvenile male pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.   CRU detectives continue to investigate this collision. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact CRU at (240) 773- 6620.


Silver Spring

Christopher Sanchez was last seen on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at approximately 11 p.m., in the 8400 block of 11th Avenue.

Sanchez is 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs approximately 155 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, green pants and black shoes.

Germantown

Abdul Raheem Joppy was last seen on Sunday, June 19, 2022 in the 11800 block of Eton Manor Drive.  Joppy is 5-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs approximately 130 pounds. He has brown curly hair and hazel eyes. Joppy has both of his ears pierced but is not currently wearing earrings. He was last seen wearing red Adidas pants, a black hooded sweatshirt and black slides.

Police and family are concerned for his welfare.


Glenmont

On Thursday, June 9, 2022, at approximately 8 p.m., a member of the 4th District Community Action Team (CAT) was patrolling the area of Wheaton/Glenmont when he observed a black 2020 Hyundai Elantra committing a traffic violation. The Hyundai was traveling northbound on Georgia Ave. at Blueridge Ave. The officer initiated a traffic stop in the area of Georgia Ave. and Lindell St. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer made contact with the driver, later identified as Javier Reyes of Hyattsville, and obtained probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle, which yielded a quantity of Marijuana and a loaded Ruger LC9 9mm handgun.

Officers arrested and searched Reyes and found a quantity of suspected cocaine and a bag containing suspected Oxycodone pills concealed on his person.


Beyond MoCo

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services assisted the Prince George’s County Fire Department this morning at a fire on the 5900 block of Kerr Rd. in Laurel. The fire originated in the basement of the home and has been extinguished, according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer.

Piringer tweeted that firefighters rescued and removed multiple dogs and cats from the house, and that “some survived and some did not.” No other injuries have been reported. We will post an update when more information becomes available. Additional photos below courtesy of @mcfrsPIO:


Silver Spring

Veterans Plaza is located at 1 Veterans Place, adjacent to the Silver Spring Civic Building. The outdoor series has eight concerts scheduled.

Attendees can bring chairs, but they do not have to do that. Food and drinks are available from the many nearby downtown eateries. No alcohol is permitted on the plaza.


Boyds

Ishaan Bhardwaj, age 18, was last seen on Monday, June 20, 2022, at approximately 10:30 a.m., in the 14300 block of Brass Wheel Road.

Bhardwaj is 6-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs approximately 170 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and grey Nike shorts.


Restaurants

Apna Pizza at 14050 Travilah Rd in Rockville (Travilah area), the former site of Pizza Palace, has announced that due to an electrical issue the restaurant’s opening has been delayed. The new pizzeria recently wrapped up construction and a countdown on the restaurant website said that the restaurant would be opening later this week.  The new opening date is now to be determined.

Apna will serve Indian style pizza, and say they will be the first in the area to offer that style. The menu will include items such as tandoori chicken pizza, butter chicken fusion pizza, masala paneer pizza, impossible korma pizza (vegetarian) or a build your own with toppings of your choice and Indian flavor and spices. In addition to pizza, they will serve sides of loaded fries, which they described as “poutine but with an edge”, and wings.
