City of Gaithersburg Reschedules Fireworks to Labor Day Weekend

The City of Gaithersburg has announced that their Fourth of July Fireworks display has been rescheduled to Sunday, September 5.

They have also released a full list of events that will be taking place between July 1-4.

Gaithersburg, MD (June 16, 2021) Celebrate America’s independence with the City of Gaithersburg’s Red, White & Blue Weekend. Patriotic-themed activities, a cooking demonstration, an outdoor movie, community chalk projects, and more will take place July 1 – 4.

Due to uncertainty about gatherings during the extensive advance planning stages, SummerFest and its traditional fireworks display could not be coordinated in time for 4th of July weekend. Fireworks and stage entertainment are being planned for the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, September 5, replacing the traditional Labor Day Parade this year only. More details will be available later this summer.

Note that in celebration of Independence Day, most City facilities will be closed on Monday, July 5. The Water Park, Skate Park and Miniature Golf Course will be open. Recycling will be collected on its regular schedule.

A variety of community-wide activities are being planned for the weekend, including:

Red, White & Blue Virtual Photo Parade
July 1 – 4
Show your Red, White & Blue on social media @GburgMD and share your patriotic photos with us to be included in a virtual photo parade. Dress up your kids (or pets!), decorate your house, takes selfies at our events – show us how you celebrate July 4th in Gaithersburg. We’ll put this colorful photo parade together and share it on social media after the weekend. Make sure you’re in it using #Gburg4th.

Paint Gaithersburg Red, White & Blue
July 1 – 4
Everyone is invited to participate in a community chalk painting celebration of summer. One mile of the walking trails at Bohrer Park will explode with summer colors and themes with the help of local art students. You can help, too. Professional artists will also create grass paintings at Bohrer Park and chalk painting at Kentlands Market Square for all to enjoy. If you can’t make it to Bohrer Park, you can still join in the fun. Get out your chalk and add art to your own sidewalk. Share your masterpiece on social media with the hashtag #Gburg4th.

Fireworks Moved to Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, September 5

Every Thursday, farmers and other vendors are joined by different food trucks at the Casey Farmers Market. In celebration of Independence Day weekend, enjoy old-fashioned pit smoked BBQ pork and beef from Hardy’s BBQ.

Tasty Books readings take place every half hour starting at 11 a.m. Purchase your kit in advance. July’s Kit features the picture book “Apple Pie 4th of July” by Janet S. Wong, a craft, a recipe for Fruit Hand Pies, and a cooking accessory. In the story, a spirited Chinese-American girl tries to convince her mother and father that selling Chinese food on this all-American holiday is not acceptable. But as the parade passes by and fireworks color the night sky, she learns a valuable lesson about diversity and acceptance.

Moonlight Movies at the Mansion: Independence Day (PG13)
July 1, 7:30 – 11 p.m.
Purchase tickets here.
Bring your family, a blanket and enjoy a showing of Independence Day under the stars on the front lawn of historic Kentlands Mansion. The movie will start just after sunset. Admission is $5 per person. Light concessions will be available for purchase starting at 7:30 p.m.

Skate Park Mural Display
July 3 & 4, Noon – Sunset
Celebrate the unveiling of the Skate Park’s new art mural, painted by local artist Eric Karbeling. There will be prizes and giveaways between 2 and 4 p.m. both days.
Family Fun at Mini Golf and the Water Park at Bohrer Park

Play a round with family and friends at the Miniature Golf Course, open daily 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. The course will be closing at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 4.

City of Gaithersburg residents and Aquatics Members are invited to splash around at the Water Park at Bohrer Park, open daily 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Light Painting

Bethesda Film Fest

The 2024 Bethesda Film Fest will feature five short documentary films made by filmmakers from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Screenings will be held Friday April 5 and Saturday April 6 at Landmark Bethesda Row Cinema.
