Community Meeting About Ethan Allen Ave and Elm Avenue to Take Place November 15 in Takoma Park

by MCS Staff

Per the City of Takoma Park: The intersection of MD 410 (Ethan Allen Avenue) and Elm Avenue continues to present safety concerns for pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles. Councilmember Cindy Dyballa and Public Works Director Daryl Braithwaite are convening a virtual community meeting to:

  • summarize the interactions the City has had with the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT);
  • present a possible alternative proposal;
  • and receive feedback to determine if there is sufficient public support to move forward with a formal request to MDOT.

Zoom Meeting: Community Meeting on Ethan and Elm Avenue

More About the Alternative Proposal

The alternative proposal is similar to the prior MDOT proposal in that it would include left turn restrictions on each approach, as well as restrict through traffic on Elm Avenue. This would consist of signage and installing a row of delineator posts along the centerline of Ethan Allen Avenue at the intersection. The difference is that it would not include restricting access for incoming traffic on either side of Elm Avenue; however, all vehicles reaching the intersection would only be able to make right turns at Ethan Allen Avenue.
