Gaithersburg to Host Jubilation Day Gospel Concert

Per the City of Gaithersburg: Gospel music, the uniquely American art form that gave rise to jazz, blues, R&B, and rock & roll, will be celebrated to the highest as the City presents the 17thAnnual Jubilation Day Gospel Concert. The Concert Pavilion at City Hall will host performances of all styles of Gospel, Christian & uplifting music by local & regional artists. The event will also feature an acknowledgement of the upcoming Juneteenth Holiday.

Admission to Jubilation Day is free. Make a day of it by getting a meal at one of the area restaurants, bring a picnic, or purchase from on-site vendor Heavenly Wings. Gaithersburg’s Concert Pavilion is located at 31 South Summit Avenue in front of City Hall. The outdoor venue features lawn seating with limited chairs. Please feel free to bring your own low chair or blanket. The celebration will also feature crafts for purchase and giveaway drawings for fun prizes. Winners must be present.

This year’s event features three gospel quartet groups:

The Sons of God is a soulful traditional gospel group with a twist of contemporary flavor. The group was founded by Chauncey Exton in November 2010, and its purpose and goal is to give honor and praise to the Lord, while spreading the Gospel through song. The group has appeared on “Bobby Jones Presents” and on stage with Rance Allen, Isaiah Thomas, Jay Caldwell, and others. The group’s requested songs are “I Saw the Light” and “Better Place and Grateful.”

DiVine of Annapolis is an anointed group. Formed in 1993, the award-winning gospel recording group is known for their well-rounded music styles. DiVine of Annapolis has ministered in many cities performing at AFRAM, The Gospel Music Awards in Georgia, Bobby Jones Show in Nashville, the I AM Tour in Ontario, and in the stage play Another Side of King. The group’s requested songs include “Two Wings,” “Peace Be Still,” and “Send Judah First.”

Elder Boykin & the Ministers of Praise is a local group established in November 2011 by Elder Boykin and comprised of members from various churches in the Washington, D.C. Metro area. Since its formation, the group has performed throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The group’s newest CD release, “God Gave Me a Second Chance,” can be heard throughout the local listening area.
