A suspect is in custody after a triple shooting left one dead and two injured Monday night in Fairland. According to police, “At approximately 10:57 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 14300 block of Fairdale Rd., for the report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located a male, unknown age, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A second male victim, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, was located outside and transported to an area hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Montgomery County Police received a call at approximately 10:57 pm and responded to a shooting on the 14300 block of Fairdale Rd. in on Monday night. Montgomery County Council Meets Tuesday Oct. 24; Votes Expected on WSSC Water Spending Control Limits and Legislation Regarding the Policing Advisory Commission

Per Montgomery County: “The Montgomery County Council will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 9 a.m. and will begin with three proclamation presentations. The first, presented by Councilmember Sidney Katz and County Executive Marc Elrich will recognize Fire Prevention Month. The second, presented by Council President Evan Glass, will recognize White Cane Awareness Day. The third, presented by Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles, will commemorate Stop Bullying Day.

At 1:15 p.m. two additional proclamations will be presented. The first, presented by Councilmembers Will Jawando, Gabe Albornoz and Kristin Mink, will recognize National Principals Month. The second, presented by Councilmember Dawn Luedtke, will recognize National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Montgomery County Residents Can Virtually Attend Third ‘Summit on Aging’ on Thursday, Oct. 26

Per Montgomery County: “Montgomery County residents can virtually attend the free third “Summit on Aging” from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, that will give older adults the opportunity to hear about County initiatives for the aging community. During the event, residents can voice concerns, engage in discussions with County and State leaders and help envision the County as a community for a lifetime. There will be a 45 minute lunch break from noon-12:45.

The summit will be held in-person at the Silver Spring Civic Building at 1 Veterans Place in Downtown Silver Spring, but early reservations have already filled the event. Maryland Attorney Joins Coalition to Protect Homeowners from Discriminatory Insurance Industry Practices

Per the Maryland Attorney General’s Office: Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown joined a coalition of 15 Attorneys General filing an amicus brief supporting the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in a legal challenge to HUD’s prohibition on housing practices that may appear neutral but in reality are discriminatory under the Fair Housing Act. The HUD regulation, known as the Disparate Impact Rule, has been formally in effect since 2013.

“Dismantling discriminatory practices in homeowners insurance, such as offering inferior policies or imposing burdensome terms and conditions in some neighborhoods but not others, is essential for fair housing,” said Attorney General Brown. “Weakening the federal protections that ensure equal access to homeowners insurance will make it more difficult for states to combat systemic discrimination.”

Deer Rescued After Falling Into 15’ Window Well Sunday Morning (VIDEO)

On the morning of October 22, Montgomery County residents were greeted with an unusual scene – a deer had fallen into the window well of their Potomac home. The young buck, though unscathed from the fall, was unfortunately trapped in the 15-foot deep well. Thankfully, the homeowner’s knew who to call! Animal Service Officers Flores-Lopez and Jesien responded to the scene, wasting no time in mobilizing support for the challenging rescue operation (video below) courtesy of Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center.

Officer Ingle, assisted by staff veterinarian Dr. Ramirez, humanely sedated the struggling deer via blow dart, a tool recently acquired by MCASAC for difficult rescues such as this one. Within moments, the effects of the sedative took hold, allowing the team to climb safely into the well and approach the trapped deer. Montgomery County Maryland – Fire & Rescue Service arrived on scene and assisted our officers in loading the deer onto a basket stretcher, which was connected to the crane system on the top of the fire truck. Finally, the deer was safely lifted out of the window well.

Rockville Police Make Arrest Following Armed Home Invasion Sunday Afternoon

Per the Rockville City Police Department: “On October 22, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Rockville City Police Officers responded to the 200 block Elizabeth Avenue for a residential robbery. The victim reported that he was accosted at his front door by two masked men armed with handguns. The men fled from the location after police were alerted to the incident in a silver Dodge Charger.

Officers observed the suspect vehicle in the area while responding to the call and pursued it. However, the suspect vehicle became disabled in the area of E. Argyle Street and W. Lynfield Drive. Police established a perimeter, and the driver was apprehended near the 600 block of Harrington Road; two handguns were recovered. The passenger remains outstanding.

A winning lottery ticket worth $510,000 remains unclaimed as of October 23, according to the Maryland Lottery. The ticket was sold on October 17 at a liquor store in Hagerstown. Per MD Lottery (10.20.23):

“Congratulations to the lucky player that purchased a $510,000 jackpot-winning Multi-Match ticket for last night’s drawing! The winning ticket in the Oct. 19 drawing was sold by Old Orchard Liquors in Hagerstown. Check your tickets for the winning numbers: 2, 18, 21, 24, 25 and 40. The winner can choose between the annuity, paid in 25 equal installments, or an estimated $260,000 cash option (before taxes).

Local High School Students Invited To Design Gaithersburg Book Festival Program

High school students from across Montgomery County, Maryland, are invited to create an original artwork to be considered for the featured image on the Gaithersburg Book Festival’s 15th Anniversary Program Cover. The artwork should reflect the theme: Celebrating 15 Years of Books, Writers & Literary Excellence.

The program will be used for the 2024 Festival, taking place Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm. The GBF program is available to thousands of festival attendees, including more than 100 authors from across the globe. The rules and regulations included here apply to the 2024 Gaithersburg Book Festival Program Cover Art Competition.

Student Arrested and Charged as an Adult After Bringing Gun to Walter Johnson High School

According to Montgomery County Police, a 17-year-old Walter Johnson High School student has been arrested and charged as an adult for possession of a firearm. The student, who is a Bethesda resident, was arrested after a witness reported to school security that the student had a gun. Montgomery County Public Schools security team members located the student, conducted a search and located a loaded 9 mm handgun.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., on Monday, October 23, 2023, Montgomery County Department of Police Community Engagement Officers were dispatched to the school, located in the 6400 block of Rock Spring Drive. Based on the information provided and evidence of the gun, officers arrested the student.
