Marathon Deli, a staple of College Park and life at the University of Maryland for decades, has signed on to open a new location at the upcoming Kensington Crossing shopping center on the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Plyers Mill Rd. Known for its specials, like its $6 gyros on Mondays, $6 steak and cheese on Tuesdays, and $6 chicken parm subs on Wednesdays, Marathon offers a variety of Greek specialities, subs, pizza, and more.

Construction began earlier this year at Kensington Crossing at 10619 Connecticut Avenue (at Plyers Mill Road). Since plans were approved, Kensington Crossing has also signed M&T Bank, Buffalo Wild Wings GO, and Mezeh for the upcoming shopping center. More about Marathon Deli below:

Summer Reading Challenge! Starts at Montgomery County Public Libraries on Saturday, June 17, with Theme of ‘All Together Now’

Per Montgomery County: The Montgomery County Public Libraries’ (MCPL) Summer Reading Challenge! will begin on Saturday, June 17, at the Rockville Memorial Library with a theme of All Together Now. The slogan represents kindness, friendship and unity.  Children and teens are invited to sign up for the Challenge online or at any MCPL branch. Pre-registration is now open.

The Summer Reading Challenge! runs through Aug. 31. It is sponsored by Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc., and the Washington Nationals baseball team.

$102.5 Million Settlement Reached with Suboxone Maker for Resolving Allegations of Illegal Monopoly Tactics – MD Attorney General Anthony G. Brown

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown today announced that Maryland and 41other states have settled antitrust litigation against the maker of Suboxone, which is a combination of the drugs buprenorphine and naloxone, used to control the effects of opioid addiction. Under the settlement, Indivior, Inc. will pay the plaintiff states $102.5 million. Maryland will receive over $2 million from the settlement. The settlement was filed in federal court in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

In 2016, the states filed a complaint against Indivior Inc. alleging that, in order to preserve its monopoly over the brand-name Suboxone, the company used illegal means in violation of the antitrust laws to switch the Suboxone market from tablets to film, while attempting to destroy the market for tablets.

15 and 17 Year Old From D.C. Steal Car in Montgomery County Thursday Night

Per Takoma Park Police: Juveniles Involved in Stolen Auto– On June 1 at approximately 8:27 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the area of Maple Avenue and Philadelphia Avenue for reports of a suspicious situation and an abandoned vehicle by three male subjects on foot. Officers located the vehicle with its rear passenger window busted out, ignition punched and the engine still running. A witness provided descriptions of the three subjects who were on foot. Two of the three subjects were apprehended in the District of Columbia. Metropolitan Police Department was notified and responded to the scene. The subjects were identified as 15 and 17 year old juvenile males of Washington, DC, who were later released into the custody of their parents.

The investigation revealed the stolen vehicle belonged to a resident in Takoma Park. The vehicle was released to the owner. Investigation continues under case #230026405. Montgomery County Department of Transportation Unveils ‘Ride with Pride Bus’ to Celebrate June as Pride Month

Per Montgomery County: Wrapped with the Intersex Progress Pride Flag, adorned with Ride with Pride messaging and neon lights to stand out at night, the bus is dedicated to the uplifting of LGBTQ+ voices, culture and civil rights. In addition to the Pride Bus, all MCDOT buses will have #RidewithPride poster displays on board in June, with a QR code that will direct to a web page with information about the historical and cultural significance of the LGBTQ+ community.

Riders hoping to catch the Pride Bus can check the MCDOT #RidewithPride page for a general schedule. Look for photos of the Ride On #RidewithPride bus in motion on the MCDOT social media channels or by following the #RideWithPride hashtag. Riders are encouraged to post and share their bus photos in support.

Montgomery County Awards $800,000 in Grants to Assist Disabled, Senior, Limited-Income Residents with Transportation Needs

Per Montgomery County: The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) awarded $800,000 in funding to 23 community-based nonprofits to expand access to transportation to disabled, senior and limited-income residents through the Targeted and Specialized Mobility (TSM) Grant Program. The TSM Capital Grant program awarded $640,000 for capital projects to a total of 17 nonprofit organizations that serve priority populations within their communities. The grants will fund capital investments to increase access to transportation services for vulnerable community members.

An additional $160,000 was awarded through the TSM Operating Grant Program to six nonprofit organizations. The funding from these grants will support the day-to-day operating costs associated with increasing access to transportation assistance.

MCPD: Detectives Investigate Bethesda Theft; Surveillance Video Released

The preliminary investigation by detectives has determined that at approximately 4 p.m., the victim saw her bank cards in her wallet while in the Tatte Bakery & Cafe located in the 7200 block of Wisconsin Avenue. Shortly later, the victim began to receive bank alerts for unauthorized transactions at a variety of stores throughout Bethesda, before noticing her bank cards were missing from her wallet.

Gaithersburg Police is Searching for a Suspect Who Used Stolen Credit Cards at Local Grocery Store

Per Gaithersburg Police: “Do you recognize him? Video surveillance from a grocery store in Gaithersburg shows that on May 16, 2023 this unknown suspect used the victims credit cards to purchase over $500 in items.

The Gaithersburg Police is asking anyone with information about the identity of this suspect to contact the Gaithersburg Police at 301-258-6400 and ask for Officer Sample. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call the Gaithersburg Tip Line at 301-330-4471.”
